Emma Stone is all abuzz at the Cannes Film Festival.
While on the Cannes red carpet for the premiere of her new movie Eddington on Friday, May 16, the two-time Oscar winner, 36, squared off with a bee that wanted to get up close and personal.
In a clip posted by Variety, Stone can be seen posing for photos between Pedro Pascal and Austin Butler, her costars in the upcoming Ari Aster film. After noticing and pointing to a bee flying just overhead, she interrupts posing to recoil from the insect with a laugh.
Luckily, her fellow stars come to the rescue to prevent any stings. Butler, 33, can be seen briefly blowing in the direction of the inquisitive bee, while Pascal, 50, swats at it.
Eddington, reuniting Joaquin Phoenix with his Beau Is Afraid writer-director Aster, takes place in May 2020, when “a standoff between a small-town sheriff” played by Phoenix, 50, a mayor played by Pascal “sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico,” per an official synopsis.
Last June, Butler described the Eddington shoot as “a wild adventure that I got to go on” while speaking with The Hollywood Reporter. “I got to play a character who’s very different from anything that I’ve done. Ari and I have been friends for a little bit, and it was great to see him on set. He is such an incredible filmmaker, and he has such confidence and such a sense of humor and wild imagination.”

At the Cannes premiere’s starry red carpet, Stone wore a sleek white dress with an asymmetrical top. Also in attendance were Angelina Jolie, Jeremy Strong, Julia Garner, Luke Grimes and Clifton Collins Jr.
Following her second lead actress Oscar win for 2023’s Poor Things, Stone reunited with that film’s director, Yorgos Lanthimos, for Bugonia (in theaters Oct. 24). Also among the actress-producer’s upcoming projects is a sequel to 2021 Disney hit Cruella.
The 2025 Cannes Film Festival runs May 13–24. Following its premiere at the French fest, Eddington will be released by distributor A24 in theaters on July 18.
