Sean Lowe has been candid with Bachelor Nation fans about the harrowing attack he sustained from the reality TV star’s family dog, Moose.
The former Bachelor lead, 41, revealed in a March 17 Instagram video that his dog began nipping at him after the smoke alarm went off during a barbeque get-together at his house. , Moose’s bites were so strong, he explained, they “put holes” in his shoes.
“At this point again, there’s so much chaos going on with the alarm going off, I give him a very stern, like, ‘Moose. No. No,’” he explained at the time. “And it was right about that moment where he shows his teeth at me and just attacks me, and I don’t mean, like, bite and run off like a lot of dogs do when they’re scared or defensive. I mean, attacks me, and I feel him just kind of ripping into the flesh of my arm. And at this point, I am doing everything I possibly can just to fend this dog off.”
Lowe said Moose followed him into the backyard, where he felt like he was “fighting for [his] life” against the animal, whom his family adopted just a few months prior. Once blood was “squirting” from his feet, his friends called his wife, Catherine Giudici, and took him to the ER.

Following another attack the following day, Lowe and his family made the decision to rehome Moose. “We miss our dog as weird as that sounds. He was a really, really good dog,” he said in the clip. “And we miss him.”

The Aftermath
In his March 17 Instagram video, Lowe said he received stitches in “five or six different places” on his arm at the ER as a result of the attack. Back at home, his friends corralled Moose in the backyard and cleared what he described to be “literal pool” of blood.
Lowe showed off his injured arms in the clip, noting that he feared that Moose “nicked an artery” due to substantial blood loss. “We have the video, which — the video is way too violent. I’m not going to share that,” he stated. “But you hear me saying, ‘This is serious. You got to get me to a hospital. Call Catherine.’ And I thank God that my friends were there, because they were able to rush me to the ER.”
Second Attack
The next morning, Lowe’s parents picked up his and Giudici’s children while they worked out their next steps. (The couple share kids Samuel, 8, Isaiah, 6, and Mia, 5.)
“I’m waiting in the front yard for my parents to show up with the kids. They show up, and we’re getting the kids in the car so that they can go with them, and the next thing I know, I hear a ‘No, no, no, no.’ And it’s Catherine from inside the house,” Lowe recalled of the day after the initial incident. “And I look at the front door because I’m standing in the front yard, and I see Moose running out the front door.”
He added, “Going through a dog attack is pretty darn traumatic. Having to relive it less than 12 hours later, seeing that dog running straight at you, is a feeling that I don’t think I ever want to experience again. Not to mention my arm was just useless because it was all stitched up and having a hard time moving it.”

Sean Lowe hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to family pets. In April 2023, the former Bachelor revealed that he and wife Catherine Giudici had to rehome their dog, Gus. The decision came after Gus, a Bullmastiff, injured their eldest son, Samuel. “The result was a trip to the E.R. and a […]
Lowe managed to “wrestle” the dog to the ground. “I’ve got a hold of his collar, but I know that he’s ripped my arm open, and I just know, like I’m fighting for my life here, like I feel like if this dog gets up, he is going to kill me,” he recalled.
Noting it took “everything [he] had” to control Moose, Lowe stated, “If it were anyone else, he would have killed my children or my wife, but I was able to hold him for 10 minutes until the cops came, and then the cops had a hard time getting control of him.”
Finding a New Home
“I know with what just transpired, obviously, I can’t keep Moose in this house. I’ve got young kids, and I’ve got to be concerned about my own safety, so I’m talking to our local animal control, and they connected me with a great officer who happened to have a Boxer,” Lowe added in his lengthy Instagram video. “He was very sympathetic and we were just talking through the different things. I called our animal adoption agency where we got Moose [and] I was looking at the various no kill shelters. I was just trying to figure out the best plan of action, and this officer actually said, ‘OK, make your calls and then call me back. We’ll figure this out together.’ Like, he was super helpful.”
Moose’s Past
Lowe clarified in his Instagram video that he doesn’t “blame” Moose for what transpired. “I think it’s clear, he experienced a lot of trauma before we got him and had something neurologically wrong with him, where just a switch flipped and he turned into an absolute killer, which was so weird,” he explained. “He really didn’t show any signs. He was great around my kids. He was great in the house. He was just an affectionate, lovable Boxer, as we love Boxers.”
He continued, “I called the rescue group and told them what happened. … Even they admitted there was a past there that they were not privy to.”
After the fact, Lowe said he wonders what would have happened if the smoke alarm had gone off while Moose was around his kids. “I just keep thinking like, ‘What if that smoke alarm had somehow gone off while he’s — he would sleep in the bed with the kids every night. What would he have done?’” he questioned. “I don’t know, and I hate playing that ‘what if’ game. So I’m just, I’m grateful it happened the way it did.”
Back in Action
Lowe gave fans a health update nearly one month after opening up about the attack. “I wanted to pop on here and tell everyone, thank you so much,” he stated in an April 15 Instagram Story video. “I mean we got thousands and thousands of messages … people wishing me well and sharing similar stories. But anyway thank you, thank you, because I could tell it was just sincere and heartfelt.”
Lowe said he was “doing great” and that his scars “aren’t as bad as I thought they would be.” He sweetly shared, “Isaiah likes to kiss this one here. The doctor told me that one is about as good as it’s going to get, it’s kind of red. It won’t be red forever but I’ll have a cool scar there forever.”
Isaiah, for his part, thanked Lowe’s followers for “talking to daddy for nice things.”
