The family of a 16-year-old plaintiff alleges that Nike failed to adequately protect teenage athletes at its summertime training program

The family of a minor who attended a Nike training camp is suing the company and the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation (NSAF) on allegations that she was raped during a weekend camp for elite high school athletes.
According to the complaint obtained by PEOPLE, the 16-year-old athlete identified as Jane Doe was allegedly choked and raped by a fellow attendee at its overnight Elite Program in Beaverton, Ore. on July 5, 2026.
Athletes at the camp were staying at a hotel near Nike headquarters when the attack occurred.
The complaint alleges that there were too few chaperones at the hotel, and that they failed to patrol hallways or check in with attendees, all of which resulted in the alleged sexual assault.
The complaint also accuses Nike and NSAF of trying to persuade the victim not to contact police about the attack.
The alleged incident happened after a group of athletes were hanging out in one of the hotel rooms. After most of the group left, the alleged attacker and victim were left alone.
The alleged attacker made multiple advances which she rejected before he choked and raped her, according to the complaint. It also alleges that Nike and NSAF staffers saw blood in the room after the attack.
“After assaulting Jane Doe, assailant allowed Jane Doe out into the hallway where she was later found crying by Nike and NSAF staff. Nike and NSAF staff then moved Jane Doe into a staff member’s hotel room where she was held, without access to her parents for up to 30 minutes,” according to the complaint.
The complaint then claims, “She was then urged to say that the attack was consensual and was required to make a written statement. Eventually, Nike and NSAF staff summoned Jane Doe, and brought her to [one of her parents]. When Jane Doe arrived, assailant, who was nearby, was heard repeatedly saying he was ‘sorry.’ ”

The victim reported the assault to Beaverton Police Department, according to the complaint.
“Assailant was then expelled from the program and physically sent home,” the complaint stated. “… making him unavailable to the Beaverton Police Department. At this point, criminal charges are pending against the assailant.”
A spokesperson for Nike told PEOPLE that it would not comment on pending litigation.
