FKA twigs is looking back on a difficult chapter.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on Wednesday, Oct. 1, the “cellophane” artist reflected on settling her abuse lawsuit with her ex, Shia LaBeouf.

When asked if she feels a sense of safety moving forward after dropping the lawsuit, FKA twigs, 37, said, “No, I wouldn’t say I feel safe.” The singer-songwriter did mention her involvement with organizations dedicated to raising awareness about domestic abuse and sexual violence.

“I feel really passionate about being involved with organizations such as Sistah Space and No More, to help survivors in any way that I can. I think it’s less about me at this point and more about looking forward. Just, you know, moving on with my life.”

FKA twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett, filed a Request for Dismissal in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, this July. Per the court filing, she requested to dismiss the complaint, which she originally filed in December 2020, with prejudice.

The actor and singer settled for an undisclosed amount ahead of the trial, which was previously scheduled to take place this September.

“Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court,” LaBeouf, 39 and the singer-songwriter said in a joint statement provided to PEOPLE by their respective attorneys.

“While the details of the settlement will remain private, we wish each other personal happiness, professional success and peace in the future.”

According to court documents filed in December 2020 in the Los Angeles Superior Court, FKA twigs alleged that the Transformers actor “relentlessly” sexually and physically assaulted and battered her. She also claimed that LaBeouf knowingly gave her a sexually transmitted disease.

LaBeouf denied “each and every” assault allegation.

LaBeouf and twigs started dating when she was cast in his film Honey Boy in 2018. They broke up the following year.

Speaking to the New York Times in December 2020, twigs explained why she was taking legal action against the actor.

“What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life,” she told the publication at the time. “I don’t think people would ever think that it would happen to me. But I think that’s the thing. It can happen to anybody.”

The musician released Eusexua in January, her first album in five years. Elsewhere in her interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she called it a “pinnacle of human experience.”

“A feeling of pure nothingness but of endless possibility, like losing yourself on the dance floor for eight hours,” twigs continued.

“It’s the height of an orgasm, it’s losing yourself in a book. It’s being present whilst eating food, it’s even the hours that you lost as a child playing games. It’s a feeling of true presence in yourself — a constant state of everything and nothing all at once.”
