Franklin Jonas knows he’s a nepo brother — and he’s grateful for the opportunity to strike out on his own as a musician.
“Nepotism’s tight,” Franklin, 24 — who is the younger brother of Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas of the Jonas Brothers — told Us Weekly while promoting “IDK,” his new song with Harper Grace. “I get to do really fun things. And I think having a conscious mindset of that — I’m really, really lucky to get the opportunities that I get and to do fun things like this and do all sorts of things that I may not have otherwise earned.”
He continued: “I’m just really grateful and I try and do my best to earn my spot and just to be, like I said, grateful.”
While he grew up making cameos alongside his older brothers, Franklin made his first serious foray into music in 2023 when he released his debut single “Cocaine.” The song was followed up with his EP Sewer Rat, which was released in June 2023.
But “IDK,” with its notable country twang and Franklin singing in a much lower register, marks a moment of transition for the singer. He performed the song live in front of fans for the first time alongside Harper Grace, 23, at JonasCon on Sunday, March 23.
“I think we have a really great relationship and I’m so lucky that I have such legendary role models to be able to call upon and ask for advice and thoughts and notes,” Franklin told Us of his brothers. “With this [song], they’ve been nothing but supportive, which is so nice and I’m so grateful. They asked us to come perform it and gave us that platform, which is amazing. I’m just grateful to have them in my corner.”
As for which brother he goes to the most for advice, Franklin says “it depends on the day.”
“I think one might give me brutally honest advice one day, and then be easy on me the next,” he said. “You never know.”

Over the years, former Nickelodeon stars have opened up about their journey as child actors at the network — and not everyone had the same experience. Jennette McCurdy shocked her fans when she revealed that she wasn’t thrilled about her time on iCarly. “I did the shows that I was on from like 13 to […]
The support from the Jonas family extends to Franklin’s co-writer and duet partner as well.
“I’ve talked to [Franklin’s] family so much about the fact that the Jonas fans are so iconic,” Harper Grace told Us about coming face-to-face with the Jonatics at JonasCon. “They are so supportive really with anything that they boys do as well as the family. It’s become this huge family which is really, really amazing and I’m super honored and grateful to have been able to be thrown into the mix of that.”
While Harper Grace has been in the country music space for the entirety of her career thus far, with role models including Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn, this is new genre territory for Franklin.
He says that this song in particular is what inspired the shift.
“I’d always wanted to write in this world and I was a bit afraid of it,” he told Us of country music. “I wanted to do it justice and do it honor, specifically more of the folk Americana stuff that I’ve loved. Doing this session was sort of the catalyst for me to be able to see that I guess I can have a voice in this world, which is exciting.”
“IDK” is out now.
