NEED TO KNOW
- Freakier Friday director Nisha Ganatra suggested that a potential third movie in the series could feature “a six-way swap” while speaking with Screen Rant
- The new sequel to Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis’ iconic 2003 comedy features both of their characters swapping bodies with teens played by Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons
- “We’d definitely have Manny Jacinto and Chad Michael Murray switching places. We all need that,” Ganatra said
Freakier Friday has only been in theaters for a week, but the movie’s director Nisha Ganatra is already considering what a third film in the series could bring to the big screen.
When Ganatra, 51, spoke with Screen Rant recently about bringing the sequel to 2003’s Freaky Friday to life with stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, the filmmaker was asked what a follow-up to the new movie — which the outlet suggested should be called Freakiest Friday —might look like.
“Freakiest Friday… What would it be? I mean, more swaps, right? Probably a six-way swap,” Ganatra responded. “We’d definitely have Manny Jacinto and Chad Michael Murray switching places. We all need that!”
The original Freaky Friday followed Curtis, 66, and Lohan, 39, as mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman, who magically swap bodies and are forced to learn what each others’ day-to-day lives are like. In the new sequel, Anna and Tess swap bodies with Anna’s daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily (Sophia Hammons), giving audiences double the body-swapping fun — and throwing a major wrench into Anna’s plans to marry Lily’s father Eric (Jacinto, 37.)
Freakier Friday also features Murray, 43, reprising his role from the original movie as Anna’s ex-boyfriend Jake Austin. Jake is pulled into the mix when Harper and Lily attempt to use him to break up Anna’s impending marriage to Eric.
Curtis and Lohan have been connected both professionally and personally ever since the original Freaky Friday released. While there has not yet been any official word regarding whether Walt Disney Pictures may put a third installment in the series into production, it’s easy to see why the two women may want to work together again.

“Jamie was with me at a time in my life when I was going through a lot publicly,” Lohan told PEOPLE in a recent cover story. “She was privately really there for me.”
As Curtis told PEOPLE, the trust Lohan has in her goes both ways. “I know I can trust her. And I can’t say that about a lot of people. “If I tell her something, it’s gonna stay with her,” she said. “We’ve both been through hard things, ’cause we’re alive and life is hard. And we’re not dead yet. So the truth of our experience together, it belies all of the kind of showbizzy stuff.”
Freakier Friday is in theaters now.
