A close friend of former DeRidder, La., Mayor Misty Roberts testified over the weekend that she told teenagers who allegedly witnessed Roberts having sex with a 16-year-old boy to “lie till you die” about what happened.
Roberts was arrested in August 2024 and resigned as mayor days before turning herself in, PEOPLE previously reported.
She was initially charged with third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, however, these charges were thrown out leading to a mistrial, according to the American Press, KPLC and The Advocate.
She was re-indicted and arraigned on charges of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile earlier this year.

Jill Weaver, who identified herself as Roberts’ "lifelong best friend" in court, took the stand Saturday during Roberts’ new criminal trial in Beauregard Parish, the outlets reported.
Weaver testified that the night of the July 2024 party, she arrived at Roberts’ home after receiving a call that Roberts was upset and yelling. When she got there, she said Roberts was “ranting and raving” and arguing with her teenage son, the outlets reported.
When asked what the argument was about, Weaver became emotional and said Roberts’ son was accusing his mother of having sex with his friend.
“He was saying [Roberts] effed his best friend,” Weaver testified, according to the American Press. “That whole night was a lot. It was chaos.”
Weaver told jurors she later texted her own son — Roberts’ nephew — instructing him to “lie till you die” about what had happened if questioned by others, per the outlets.
Roberts’ ex-husband, Duncan Clanton, also testified that Roberts confessed to him the day after the alleged incident that she had sex with the teen and that the children had caught them, the outlets reported.
Clanton said Roberts allegedly asked him to contact the alleged victim’s parents and later urged him to deny the allegations if asked about them, according to KPLC.
Jurors previously heard testimony that a DoorDash driver delivered Plan B emergency contraception to Roberts' home after the party, PEOPLE previously reported.
The trial is scheduled to continue this week, according to KPLC and the American Press.
