Flight 1046 landed safely in Fort Lauderdale, but the aircraft’s subsequent return flight was canceled

Pilots on board a Frontier Airlines plane flying into Fort Lauderdale, Fla., requested medical assistance upon arrival after four flight attendants fell ill mid-flight.
Frontier flight 1046 departed Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in Ohio just before 8 a.m. local time on Thursday, Aug. 13, per FlightAware. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, landed at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) around 10:15 a.m. local time after about two-and-a-half hours in the air.
However, as the aircraft approached its destination, pilots radioed in to air traffic control to alert them of an emergency.

“If you could call the tower and have them meet us at our gate, A4, for developing medical,” a pilot says in an air traffic control recording obtained by ATC.com. “All my flight attendants have had headaches and now three, uh, now four are nauseous.”
Frontier flight 1045, a return trip from Fort Lauderdale to Cleveland, was scheduled to depart its gate around 11:30 a.m. local time. However, the trip was ultimately canceled, according to FlightAware.
The cause of the reported illnesses was not immediately clear, and the condition of the flight attendants remains unclear. PEOPLE has reached out to Frontier Airlines, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, which responds to calls at FLL, for comment.

The incident comes nearly three weeks after six of nine crew members on an American Airlines flight started feeling ill on a transatlantic flight due to an odor on board.
On Saturday, July 25, American Airlines flight 719 took off from Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport in Rome for Philadelphia. During the trip, six flight attendants began feeling dizzy or ill, an American Airlines spokesperson confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE. They added the odor was associated with an oven on board.
The flight was about three hours into its journey before diverting to Dublin.

“Paramedics met the aircraft at the gate out of an abundance of caution and the flight attendants and one customer were evaluated and subsequently released,” American’s statement said. The impacted customers were provided hotel accommodations before continuing on alternative flights to Philadelphia.
