Kirsten Storms has some thoughts about Maxie’s romance with Lucky Spencer on General Hospital.
“It was weird. I’ve known Greg [Vaughan] since I was, like, 14 or 15,” Storms, 41, said in an interview with Swooon published earlier this month. “And to me, back then, he was a grown-up. So, that was a very interesting experience.”
Storms has played Maxie on the long-running soap for the past two decades. She joined General Hospital in 2005 and her story line with Vaughan, 51, began early on. Storms confessed that while she found her costar to be handsome, there was some uneasiness due to the pair’s 10-year age gap.
“Of course, I always thought Greg was a gorgeous guy, but that was a little strange for me,” she said. “And the story line was rough because of all the things Maxie was doing just to get him. So, that was a crazy time, and questionable choices were made.”
At the start, Maxie developed a crush on Lucky but didn’t pursue anything at first. She then fell in love with Jesse (Matt Marraccini) who is an undercover cop who died in the line of duty. Jesse and Lucky were partners in the force.
“Jesse [Matt Marraccini] was the first man Maxie dated,” Storms recalled of her first “adult relationship” on the soap. “I remember both of us still trying to figure out what we were doing on the show. And then the character died.”
Following Jesse’s death, Maxie and Lucky leaned on each other to cope with their grief — a joint attempt that quickly turned unhealthy. Maxie started partying constantly while Lucky dealt with an addiction to pain pills. After learning about his struggle, Maxie offered to provide him with pills in exchange for sex. (Lucky is married to Elizabeth, played by Rebecca Herbst.)
Amid their affair, Lucky decided to turn his life around by going to rehab in an attempt to win Elizabeth back. However, Maxie made a questionable choice by pretending to be pregnant with Lucky’s baby and subsequently faking a miscarriage. Maxie ended up coming clean to Lucky later.

Kirsten Storms is taking a brief hiatus from General Hospital. Storms, 39, who has portrayed Maxie Jones on the ABC soap opera since 2005, has been temporarily replaced by actress Nicole Paggi. Deadline reported on Thursday, December 28, that Paggi, 40, will be playing the role during Storms’ absence, which will last a few days. […]
After Maxie’s tumultuous relationship with Lucky, she had romances with Cooper (Jason Gerhardt) and Damian (Bradford Anderson). She later had an on screen romance with her now ex-husband Brandon Barash, who played Johnny.
“I remember being super excited to have a makeout scene with him. We were good buddies. Even still, our banter is unlike anything else in my life, and we always had that,” Storms recalled of working with Barash. “If someone had told me then that I was going to have the most amazing, kind and beautiful girl [daughter, Harper Rose Barash] with him, I would have been like, ‘Shut up. No way that’s happening. Brandon? Really?’ I never would have guessed, and if I’m thankful for anything that came out of GH, obviously, it’s that I got Harper.”
