George Clooney’s wife, Amal Clooney, had a good reason for skipping the official opening of the actor’s Broadway play.
Speaking to reporters on the Thursday, April 3, red carpet, George, 63, revealed that Amal, 47, was “with the kids.”
George’s Broadway play, Good Night, and Good Luck, officially opened at New York City’s Winter Garden Theatre on Thursday night. George not only stars as Edward R. Murrow, but he also wrote the script based on the 2005 movie of the same name.
While Amal and the pair’s kids — 7-year-old twins Alexander and Ella — missed his Great White Way debut, they did join him in the Big Apple.

“How do you not like the city? They love being here [and] we’re having a really fun time,” George said on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in February. “Actually, a play is kind of a good schedule because you’re working at night and you get to see the kids during the day, so it’s OK.”
A source exclusively told Us Weekly last month that the married couple were equally excited about living in New York.
“George and Amal have been loving being in NYC,” the insider told Us in March. “They usually don’t spend that much time in the city so they have a lot of people they have been seeing. They both go to work during the day, and the twins are here with them too.”
Per the insider, George and the human rights lawyer have also “hosted a few dinner parties for friends” while in the city.
“They are very much a couple who enjoys more private date nights,” the source added.

Despite keeping a low profile, George sometimes can’t but gush about his domestic life with Amal and the twins.
“I’m proud to be in the same room with her. I’m proud to be her husband. I’m proud to be the father of kids with her,” George told The New York Times in a February profile. “I had this conversation with Amal when I turned 60. I said, ‘Look, I can still play full-court basketball. I can still run around. I can still do pretty much everything I did when I was 30. But in 30 years, I’m 90. That’s a real number.’ My dad just hit that. And there are some things you’re not doing no matter how many granola bars you eat.”
The Oscar winner added, “I told Amal, ‘We have to focus on the next 20, 25 years of making sure that we’re jamming in everything we can.’ Not just work, because no one at the end of their life goes, ‘God, I wish I worked more.’ There’s a thing about finding the person that you needed to find, particularly at a certain age, and everything from then on is easy.”
