George Foreman Remembered by Mike Tyson as ‘a Man of God’ Following His Death at 76

George Foreman is being remembered by the sports world and beyond after the legendary professional boxer and entrepreneur died at the age of 76 on Friday, March 21.

“Condolences to George Foreman’s family. His contribution to boxing and beyond will never be forgotten,” fellow champion boxer Mike Tyson wrote in a post on X.

Tyson’s post included two images of the athletes throughout the years.

The first was a more recent photo of the pair in Las Vegas at the Encore Hotel on May 03, 2019. The two boxers held their fists up while attending the Hublot x WBC Night of Champions Gala to show off their matching luxury timepieces.

Another picture posted in the tribute from Tyson, 58, showed the Hangover star jokingly giving Foreman an uppercut at an April 1990 press conference as they met to promote a boxing double header extravaganza again in Las Vegas, to be held at Caesars Palace.

They each gave a playful smile in both photos.

“Rest in peace, George Foreman. Your legacy lives on, champ,” Scottie Pippen captioned a social media post, adding a single white dove emoji.

The former Chicago Bulls star, 59, posted a photo of Foreman standing victorious in a pair of white boxing shorts and red gloves as a person standing behind him helped him with a red robe.

Robert Griffin III tweeted, “Rest in Peace to the LEGENDARY George Foreman who passed away at 76. More than just a boxing World HeavyweightChamp, Olympic Gold Medalist and George Foreman Grill maker. He was a Man of God, a Preacher and the embodiment of Power. Prayers up for Big George and his family.”

His post included a compilation clip of the famed boxer’s knockouts.

“The Champ is gone,” tweeted Loni Love. “Bigger than life in more ways than one, George Foreman captivated the hearts & minds of sports fans & found a place on the kitchen counter of many homes. A 2x time heavyweight champion, entrepreneur, author and minister.”

Richard Roeper recalled one of Foreman’s greatest fights: “RIP to George Foreman, an iconic figure in boxing and pop culture. As a 7-2 underdog against Joe Frazier in 1973, Foreman knocked down Frazier six times. The first resulted in one of the most memorable calls ever, with Howard Cosell exclaiming, ‘Down goes Frazier!'”

Foreman’s death was announced on his official Instagram account, with a photo of him smiling while gathered with those who knew him best.

“Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones,” the post said.

Though he was known for his time in the ring and later the George Foreman Grill, his family remembered him as “a devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather,” who lived his life with purpose.

“A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, He was deeply respected — a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name— for his family,” the heartfelt tribute continued.
