Teresa Giudice’s daughter, Gia Giudice, has addressed claims that her mother and stepfather have accumulated a $3 million tax debt.
Speaking on the Monday, March 31, episode of her podcast “Casual Chaos,” Gia, 24, watered down the report, which made headlines on Monday, March 24, after People obtained records that suggested Teresa, 52, and husband Luis Ruelas, 49, were in financial trouble.
“We have had a lot of positive moments this week and some negative moments. I’m sure you all have seen the news,” Gia began before launching into her side of the story. “My mom has been the sole provider for my sisters and I since the minute my father [Joe Giudice] left for prison. She has been working her ass off to make sure that my sisters and I live a stable life and that my family is financially stable. Like I can’t stress enough how much my mom has worked. Everything will be resolved.”
Gia, who also featured in The Real Housewives of New Jersey alongside her famous mother, continued, “My mom has everything under control and there’s nothing to worry about. My stepdad, Luis, is the most amazing stepfather. He treats my sisters and I like we are his own. He is also working on getting everything resolved as well. But there’s nothing to worry about. Everything’s going to be fine. But thank you for your concern.”

Teresa Giudice has steadily been making progress to settle her debts after she was served a $17,000 tax lien. “Ms. Giudice has been aware of her tax obligations for years and makes significant timely monthly payments towards her outstanding tax liabilities and will continue to do so until those liabilities do not exist,” the Real Housewives of New Jersey star’s […]
According to court documents, the couple have received more than $3 million in tax liens, which is the government’s legal claim against a person’s property when there’s a failure to pay a tax debt, per the IRS.
The documents allegedly detailed that Teresa owes $303,889.20, while Ruelas’ owed amount nears $2.6 million. In December 2024, Ruelas, 49, was issued a lien for $163,523.94, per People. The lien is reportedly still an open case.
Bethenny Frankel, who rose to fame as an original cast member of The Real Housewives of New York City, took to social media one after news of the debt broke to offer some thoughts. “OMG no say this is not so,” Frankel, 53, captioned an Instagram Reel that discussed the alleged situation.
Gia made note of Frankel’s Reel during her podcast, sending her a message early on in the episode.
“Bethany Frankel, thank you so much for your sweet video. You are a mother with a daughter. I bet you wouldn’t like [it] if somebody was saying this about you,” Gia said. “I hope that one thousand dollars TikTok paycheck was really worth it. And thanks. But we’re doing perfectly fine over here.”
The debt claim is not the first time Teresa has faced financial hardship in a marriage. In 2009, Teresa and her first husband, Joe, 52, filed for bankruptcy, citing an $11 million debt. Five years later, the pair were indicted on 39 counts, including bankruptcy fraud. Teresa served 11 months of a 15-month sentence the following year.
Joe served a 41-month prison sentence and was deported to Italy after its completion. He now resides in the Bahamas and was recently visited by Gia, as detailed in her podcast episode.
