Beauty YouTuber Gigi Gorgeous and her husband, Nats Getty, have filed for divorce after nearly six years of marriage, per a statement issued to PEOPLE by a representative on behalf of both parties.
“Gigi Gorgeous and Nats Getty confirm they have amicably decided to part ways and officially file for divorce,” the statement reads. “While they have decided to end their marriage, they remain friends and have the [utmost] love and respect for each other.”
Nats filed for divorce on Wednesday, July 2, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.
The LGBTQ+ advocate, 33, and Nats, 32, married in July 2019 after meeting about three years earlier. In 2023, the pair opened up to PEOPLE about their hope to welcome kids together through IVF.
Gigi explained that she only realized how much she wanted children once she and Nats got together. However, the YouTuber said she worried it might not be possible for them to conceive together after having been on hormones since the beginning of her transition.
“No one really talked to me about freezing what I had, my DNA for the future children that I wanted to have. I just really wasn’t thinking about it,” she told PEOPLE in 2023. “And it wasn’t until I really got to know Nats and his values and just got together as a couple that we were like, ‘We ultimately do want kids.'”
Both Nats — who works as the creative director and founder of his clothing company Strike Oil — and Gigi said they had to make major lifestyle routine changes in order to up their chances with IVF. At the time, the vlogger had to stop taking hormones for the first time in 10 years, and both focused on their physical health and fitness.
Ultimately, both her sperm sample and Nats’ frozen eggs resulted in two embryos from the first round of IVF. In December 2023, they updated PEOPLE with more positive news about their fertility journey, sharing that they had a total of six embryos.
The social media star shared openly about her inclinations toward motherhood on her YouTube channel, on which she has over 2.6 million followers. In 2018, Gigi opened up about the subject in a video, expressing both her desire to welcome kids with Nats and her frustration at the prospect of the process.
“I feel like it’s a natural progression for two people in love to talk about having children and taking that next step in creating a family,” she said in the video from seven years ago. “I’ve always wanted to get married. I’ve always wanted to have kids and have a family, but I never actually thought that it would happen for me, and now that I’m here, it’s kind of like … f—.”
