‘Ginny and Georgia’ Introduces Major ‘Degrassi’ Easter Egg Before Georgia Finally Has Sex With Joe

Ginny & Georgia gave Joe fans exactly what they have always wanted for him and Georgia — but did everyone catch that Degrassi Easter egg?

During the eighth episode of season 3, which premiered on Thursday, June 5, Georgia (Brianne Howey) kept up the lie that she was pregnant with Paul’s (Scott Porter) baby. Paul subsequently showed his support for Georgia in the courtroom and things were looking up.

Georgia, however, appeared disillusioned with Paul after seeing him come back and rekindle their romance because he thought they were expanding their family. Paul later realized that Ginny (Antonia Gentry) had a pregnancy scare, which was the test Georgia claimed was hers.

This lie led to a major fight between Georgia and Paul where he got aggressive and they ended their relationship. He announced their divorce the next day, which meant Georgia no longer had his lawyer or access to any assistance amid her trial.

Whatever it takes! Degrassi: The Next Generation launched the careers of Drake (Real name: Aubrey Graham), Nina Dobrev, Shenae Grimes and more, but some fans will always see the actors and actresses as their iconic characters. Degrassi: The Next Generation, the fourth instatement of the Degrassi franchise, premiered in 2001. The series originally centered on […]

Georgia considered running away — but not before a steamy moment with Joe (Raymond Ablack). For those that don’t remember, Joe found out that Georgia was abused by Gil (Aaron Ashmore) which resulted in him punching her ex in episode 8. Georgia realized what he had done when she saw Joe’s hand, which led to a kiss. When Joe connected the dots about Georgia trying to run from a possible prison sentence, they had sex.

Georgia didn’t make it far though. She removed her ankle monitor, stole Marcus’ (Felix Mallard) bike (after telling his sister to look into the amount of alcohol he was secretly drinking) and ultimately turned herself in. This chain of events made Ginny realize she needed to take action to help her mother.

The ending was very different from Ginny’s journey earlier in the episode. She won a poetry contest, went to therapy with her dad, broke up with Wolfe and even had a tough conversation with Abby (Katie Douglas) about her eating disorder.

There was also a blink-and-you-miss-it Degrassi reunion for Ablack when Annie Clark played Abby’s father’s new girlfriend. If there’s one perk of Ginny & Georgia filming in the same place as Degrassi did, it is Sav and Fiona reuniting on screen.

Now back to the episode, Ginny & Georgia had some flashbacks to Georgia being initiated into the biker gang she hung out with as a teenager. The sequence set up the conclusion to Georgia’s murder trial, which is now in jeopardy.

Howey, 35, previously teased how the fallout of Georgia’s arrest would set the scene for the entire season.

“We see entirely new sides of Ginny and Georgia,” Howey exclusively told Us Weekly in January. “I feel like [it’s] surprising ’cause we’ve already seen so many sides of them, but lo and behold, there’s more.”

One month later, Howey expanded on what is to come, telling Us, “All of the characters are now, as we see, on their own mental health journey, and it’s a really important part of the show. Georgia, for the first time in her life, is realizing the catastrophic consequences of her actions that they have on her children.”

Howey teased how Georgia’s development would play out. “As season 2 starts, Georgia has been so exposed — all of their private family secrets are now out in the open — and you can only imagine the domino effect of what this does to everyone in Georgia’s life, including Georgia,” she added.

Ginny & Georgia is streaming on Netflix.
