Gloria Reuben Joins Cast of ‘Blue Bloods’ Spinoff ‘Boston Blue’ — But What Is Her Future Role?

The highly anticipated Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, has added yet another powerhouse performer to its already stacked cast. On Tuesday, June 10, it was announced that Gloria Reuben would be joining the upcoming CBS series in a thrilling new role.

Reuben, 61, “will play Mae Silver, Boston’s District Attorney and the matriarch of a blended family of law enforcement professionals,” per Deadline.

“The widow of a judge who was murdered on the courthouse steps, Mae endeavors to put family ahead of work whenever possible,” the outlet reported.

Reuben previously appeared in two episodes of Blue Bloods in 2021 as a character named Rachel Weber.

Her character is the mother of Lena, who will be played by network favorite Sonequa Martin-Green.

Donnie Wahlberg will be returning to reprise his beloved Blue Bloods character, Danny Reagan, in Boston Blue as a member of Boston PD. It was also announced that Maggie Lawson would portray the police superintendent and Mae’s stepdaughter, Sarah.

“Mae is accustomed to making decisions and standing by them,” the synopsis of Reuben’s character revealed.

In addition to the aforementioned heavy-hitters, Ghostbusters legend Ernie Hudson will play Reverend Peters, Mae’s father and the grandfather of Lena and Sarah. The casting for another member of the family, a rookie cop named Jonah, has yet to be announced.

Reuben already has a connection to the Boston Blue cast, as she and Martin-Green both starred in the 2024 film My Dead Friend Zoe. Fans of the Blue Bloods franchise are eager to see the pair reunite onscreen, as Wahlberg, 55, teased some exciting things to come in Boston Blue.

“So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue! The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy begins. I can’t wait. See you CBS fall!” he wrote on Instagram, alongside a teaser trailer on March 25.

Other fans of the police procedural series are curious about whether or not original Blue Bloods cast members will be making cameos on Boston Blue.

“Now it’s just Danny going to this new world, but I can’t say a lot about it, but I can say, you know, if he’s a Reagan, it’ll never be just Danny,” Wahlberg told Fox News Digital in a May 1 interview. “They’ll always be a Reagan a phone call away, and, you know, the traditions that the Reagans have, Danny wouldn’t abandon those traditions.”

“Something might happen to move him away from New York. But he’s always going to be a Reagan,” he teased about his character’s future.

Wahlberg mentioned that he “started to see the opportunity that Boston Blue was” after the heartbreaking cancellation of Blue Bloods on CBS.

“It’s really a chance for us to carry on the tradition and the legacy of the show,” he added. “And I know how important it is to the viewers because I share what Blue Bloods meant. It meant a lot to me as well. So I know there’s a lot of excitement and enthusiasm about it.”
