One couple’s wedding guest can’t attend their upcoming nuptials, but instead of RSVP’ing with a simple “no” the bride and groom recently found out that the woman has tried to pass off her invitation to coworkers.
In a post on Reddit’s “Wedding Planning” forum, the bride said that her coworker recently informed her that one of her wedding guests has been asking people to take her place at her upcoming nuptials.
While the bride and groom, who work at the same location, invited “a lot” of their coworkers to attend their big day, they had to “draw the line somewhere” due to budget constraints.
Because they wanted to spend more time with a coworker who is moving away soon, they made sure the woman made their guest list. But instead of telling the couple that she can’t make it, the woman is offering her invitation to people they didn’t invite “on purpose.”
“I was approached by one of the coworkers who I didn’t invite, she was kind enough to let me know, ‘Lisa is walking around offering your wedding invitation to people like it’s a concert ticket. When I told her that’s not how things usually work she said she’ll find someone else,’ ” the bride wrote.
Of all the things brides have to worry about, the Redditor never thought this was something she’d encounter.
“All I can do is laugh,” she said.
There’s not much else the bride and groom can do about the situation. They hand-delivered the invitation to the woman because they don’t have her phone number, and “won’t see her at work anymore” because she’s relocating.
Reddit users in the comments section said that the situation was “baffling,” and were confused about why the woman wouldn’t just RSVP “no.” Everyone agreed that wedding invitations are not “transferrable.”
“It amazes me how little some people understand basic social etiquette,” someone wrote. “A wedding invitation is not a concert ticket!”

One Redditor commented that they experienced a similar situation. They invited a couple to their child-free wedding, but instead of declining one spot of the invitation when their partner couldn’t make it, an individual “just showed up” with their child instead.
“That is inappropriate and not acceptable,” another user commented in part.
