In Harry Hamlin’s eyes, wife Lisa Rinna was “absolutely” lighter after leaving The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
“Best decision we ever made was for her to bow out after eight seasons, and she made that decision. But it’s a breath of fresh air at this moment,” Hamlin, 73, exclusively told Us Weekly, while promoting his and niece Renee Guilbault’s The Open Food Company and In the Kitchen With Harry Hamlin — which they cohost.
He continued, “We were always a little circumspect about her doing it in the beginning. I was, for sure. But as a branding opportunity, it turned out to be great for her. I think it thickened her skin a lot too, so it’s a very difficult show to get through emotionally. But she did it and we’re still standing.”
Rinna, 61, parted ways with the Bravo reality show in 2023 after eight seasons as a Housewife.

“This is the longest job I have held in my 35-year career and I am grateful to everyone at Bravo and all those involved in the series,” she told Us in a statement at the time. “It has been a fun 8-year run and I am excited for what is to come!’”
Her rep added, “Given that Lisa’s contract was up at the end of last season, and after taking the time to weigh her current options and business obligations, Lisa and Bravo have discussed and mutually decided that she will not be returning to RHOBH.”
For Hamlin, his wife was the “GOAT” — a.k.a the greatest of all time — to appear on RHOBH. (Hamlin and Rinna tied the knot in 1997 and share daughters Delilah, 26, and Amelia, 23.)
“A lot of people will come up to me and say, ‘Oh, the show just doesn’t have that spark, that same Lisa Rinna thing going on anymore,’” he said on the Friday, May 2 episode of DearMedia’s “Let’s Not Talk About the Husband” podcast. “I know we have talked about this a lot, but you wouldn’t go back.”

Hamlin noted that he and Rinna are on the same page when it comes to her not returning to the Bravo series.
“I was there during those eight years. I was with you the whole way. I know what it took out of you. I know what it gave you. I know what it took away. Knowing that, I would not in any way endorse you going back to that show,” he said, adding that “it was a negative” emotionally.
“It took a lot out of you, out of me, out of everything. It didn’t give you back as much as it took away. You didn’t come out of it ahead, if you ask me.”
Rinna, for her part, noted that she would return to the show — but only for a hefty price. “I mean, if a billionaire sugar daddy came along and said, ‘You have to do Housewives and I will pay you $25 million dollars,’ I would say, ‘OK, fine, sure,’” Rinna said, to which Hamlin asked if it was all about the money. “A lot of times, but it would have to be so much [money],” she replied.

While Rinna’s stint on reality TV may be paused, Hamlin recently returned for a second season of his and Guilbault’s In the Kitchen With Harry Hamlin in April.
“We wanted to help people understand how to cook a dinner party for a few people without freaking out, and also making sure that the food is really good,” he explained to Us. “So that’s where I depend on Renee to help make sure that the food is great. And she teaches me every time we cook, she teaches me a hack or two about how to get things done quicker and better.”
The pair have also founded The Open Food Company and bottled up Hamlin’s famous sauce, which he started serving to his neighbors about two decades ago.
“It became a thing every Sunday they would come over and then they would invite friends of theirs over and so it spread, metastasize is sort of a word that I could use about that, around the community where we live, and people knew about the sauce,” he explained. “And then when it came out on the show that Lisa did, we went into the zeitgeist and went, bam.”
He continued, “And now everywhere I go, people ask me, ‘Hey Harry, where can I get your sauce?’ And I can now say, ‘You can get it on Amazon, you can get it at Harrysfamous.com. So I can actually tell them, ‘Yeah, you can actually have this sauce for yourself without me having to come to your kitchen and mess it up and cook it.’”
In the Kitchen With Harry Hamlin returned for a second season on AMC in April.
