Heather Rae and Tarek El Moussa Talk About Having More Kids in Therapy: He’s ‘Very Much Done’

Heather Rae El Moussa revealed that she and her husband, Tarek El Moussa, disagree on whether to continue expanding their family.

“I never wanted to leave [my son]. I want to be with him all the time. I still do,” Heather, 37, gushed on a recent episode of the “Scrubbing In with Becca Tilley & Tanya Rad” podcast. “He is, like, the light of my life. It makes me so happy. I’m like, ‘How could I not want more?’ But my husband is very much done.”

Tristan, now 2, was born in January 2023. Heather is also stepmother to Tarek’s eldest kids — daughter Taylor, 14, and son Brayden, 9 — whom he shares with his ex-wife, Christina Haack.

The Selling Sunset alum admitted that it’s “hard” to disagree with Tarek, 43, about “what we want with our future,” adding, “We are in therapy, talking through things, and it’s just something that we never went to therapy together, which I wish we would have started it sooner because I think it’s such an amazing thing and it helps communication.”

Heather Rae El Moussa (née Young) has often opened up about becoming a stepparent and a mother — both before and after welcoming her first son in January 2023. The Selling Sunset star, who married Tarek El Moussa in 2021, gushed about the bond she formed with her now-husband’s children in December 2022. (Tarek shares […]

Heather shared that she and her husband started couples therapy “four months ago” and go at least twice a month. “It just helps us, like, talk through what I’m feeling, and then, his feelings,” she explained.

For the realtor, age is a big reason why she doesn’t want to put off having more kids. “I’m 37. I’m turning 38 this year. So, for me, it’s kind of like now or never in a way, not because you can’t have babies older, but I don’t want to be 40 having babies still ‘cause it’s a lot,” she shared. “It takes up a lot of your time, a lot of your life, and the kids are my priority over myself. So, I want to do it, get my body back. And it took a long time. It’s hard.”

Heather noted that she wishes she brought up the possibility of having more kids with Tarek sooner after Tristan was born. “Postpartum, too, is really hard. I didn’t have depression, but you go through crazy hormonal changes,” she said. “You’re taking care of this little human that needs you. It’s not like you can just leave and go. They need you.”

Breast-feeding is something Heather said wasn’t “natural” for her. The process was “very challenging” due to her son’s early struggles with tongue-tie, cheek-tie and lip-tie. (Tristan underwent surgery for his tongue-tie in June 2023.)

Heather’s journey to motherhood was an emotional one, and she often shared her ups and downs with IVF via social media. “I know it did touch other women, and I know that I helped other women through it,” she exclusively told Us Weekly in June 2023. “I’m always here to help and that’s what I want to use my platform to help as many people as possible.”

She added, “[I was] lucky I got pregnant naturally, but I do have embryos saved and we were planning on implanting the embryos and then I got pregnant with Tristan. That was a huge shock. I did not think I’d be able to get pregnant on my own. And now I have those embryos and who knows what’s going to happen.”

Now, she enjoys sharing adorable snaps of her baby boy via Instagram. “Apparently, strawberries are better when you eat them directly from the bush 😂🍓,” she captioned a Tuesday, March 25, slideshow featuring pics and clips from the family’s strawberry-picking outing. “So grateful to spend a day with Tristan and the grandparents at the farm! 🐐🚜🧑‍🌾.”
