Henry Cavill Is Working Out Again After Suffering Leg Injury on Highlander Set: ‘In Enduring, Grow Strong’

NEED TO KNOW

  • Henry Cavill shared new photos of himself working out while wearing a large leg brace, weeks after he suffered an injury while training for Highlander
  • Cavill’s photos show him doing pull-ups and leg extensions
  • Cavill’s upcoming movie Highlander is a reboot of the 1986 Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery fantasy film

Henry Cavill’s leg injury is not stopping him from getting his workout in.

On Wednesday, Oct. 1, Cavill, 42, shared multiple photos of himself exercising while wearing a large brace that encompassed most of his left leg below his knee, nearly three weeks after it was first reported he had suffered a leg injury while training for an upcoming reboot of the Highlander film series.

The first photo Cavill shared showed him doing pull-ups with his legs extended out; two other pictures showed him completing leg extension exercises while wearing the cast. The final photo in his carousel appeared to show his leg receiving medical treatment.

“Endure. In enduring, grow strong,” Cavill wrote in the caption to his post. The actor and major video gamer attributed the quote to a character named Dak’kon from the 1999 video game Planescape: Torment.

Cavill’s Oct. 1 Instagram post and update on his injury marked his first since he acknowledged the injury in photos he shared on Sept. 19, when he posted a picture of his leg elevated and a wrap around his ankle and foot. Cavill has not offered any details regarding what caused his injury; Deadline originally reported Sept. 11 that Cavill sustained an unspecified injury during training.

On Sept. 19, Cavill shared the text of the poem “Invictus” by 19th century English writer William Ernest Henry along with earlier photos of his injured leg. “Out of the night that covers me / Black as the pit from pole to pole / I thank whatever gods may be / For my unconquerable soul,” reads the poem’s first stanza.

Highlander, which is currently in pre-production, is a remake of the 1986 fantasy-adventure movie that starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. Amazon MGM Studios is rebooting the movie with Cavill, who costars with Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou and Max Zhang. “If you thought you’d seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet,” Cavill said of the project at CinemaCon 2024, as Deadline reported at the time.

Aside from Highlander, Cavill has a number of projects in the works, including In the Grey, his second collaboration with director Guy Ritchie. He last appeared on the big screen during his cameo in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
