Amanda Kloots is keeping her late husband Nick Cordero’s memory alive on their son’s special day.
On Wednesday, June 4, Kloots shared that their son Elvis, 5, has graduated from kindergarten. For the milestone celebration, Elvis wore a touching tribute to his late father: a shirt made from his dad’s “last costume” in Rock of Ages on Broadway.
The proud mom shared a side by side photo of the two, showing how similar they look in their outfits, with Elvis wearing a tiny version of Cordero’s costume, consisting of a button-down shirt featuring blue and yellow flowers and a pair of sunglasses.
Another photo featured in the carousel showed Elvis and Kloots smiling for the camera as Kloots held her son’s diploma. Elvis was also captured sitting next to his classmates while wearing a graduation cap that was decorated with crayon ink.
“Today, Elvis wore his dad’s last costume from Rock of Ages for kindergarten graduation,” Kloots captioned her Instagram carousel. “Years ago, a friend of mine took Nick’s costume and turned it into a shirt for Elvis, so Nick could be with us today. People often ask how I keep Nick’s memory alive and share him with Elvis. This is how—I make sure that Elvis always knows his dad is always a part of his life and that he’s always there. ❤️.”
Fans filled the comment section with words of encouragement for Kloots and Elvis.
“Elvis is such a special little boy with a very special mother,” one fan wrote. Another added, “Congratulations Elvis!!” A third commented, “he is so cute he is growing up so fast somewhere nick is proud of his son.”
Cordero died due to COVID-19 complications in July 2020. He was 41.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in February, Kloots shared how she keeps her late husband’s memory alive “every day” after she transformed his ashes into a one-of-a-kind diamond ring.
“It’s an odd experience to see your loved one as ash, but I think what’s so beautiful about Eterneva is that I don’t often go and look at those ashes,” the former Talk cohost, 42, told PEOPLE. “They’re in a little special place in my closet. And I know that I’ll look every day at this ring.”
“And so I think it’s really special because the ashes for me are hard to look at and they are hard to go back to, but a piece of jewelry like this is so beautiful and such a beautiful way to look at your person.”
Eterneva is known for transforming ash and hair into diamonds in a process that allows loved ones to participate and honor people and pets.
Kloots previously distributed Cordero’s ashes in New York City, Los Angeles, in the Pacific Ocean (where his father’s ashes were spread) and has made vases and other jewelry items out of them, too.
Cordero and Kloots married in 2017 and welcomed Elvis in 2019. Kloots is now in a “very new” relationship with tennis player Justin Gimelstob, she told PEOPLE in April. “It’s been absolutely lovely,” she said before revealing that they’re in the “courting” phase.
