How HBO Max Is Trolling Its Own Name Change

It’s out with the new and in with the old at Max.

During the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfronts in New York City May 14, the streaming service announced it would revert to its HBO Max branding two years after HBO was dropped from its name.

The service, which is home to original series including The Pitt, And Just Like That… and Hacks as well as HBO favorites like Game of Thrones, The White Lotus and True Detective, will adopt its former moniker once more beginning this summer.

Shortly after the announcement was made, social media users shared their comical reactions to the news, including one who wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “I’d love to be in the meetings they keep having.”

But not to be outdone, the network’s own social media accounts poked fun at the change using content from its own library. For instance, the official Max account updated its bio on the platform with a reference to Jennifer Coolidge’s iconic White Lotus one-liner, writing, “These rebrands are trying to murder me.”
