How Los Angeles Dodgers Star Freddie Freeman Honors His Late Mom During Every MLB Game

Freddie Freeman has found a special way to honor his late mom, Rosemary Freeman, at every MLB game.

“Years ago, [his dad] Fred gifted Freddie a necklace with a cross and it has his mom’s hair in the cross,” Freddie’s wife, Chelsea Freeman, revealed in Fight for Glory: 2024 World Series. “So Freddie never takes that off even while he’s playing.”

In Apple TV+’s new docuseries, which is available to stream starting Friday, March 28, cameras rolled as Freddie, 35, and the Los Angeles Dodgers faced off against the New York Yankees in the 2024 World Series.

Before the Dodgers became champions on October 30, 2024, Chelsea, 35, recalled a moment when her husband’s beloved piece of jewelry was altered.

Freddie and Chelsea got married in November 2014 and have since welcomed three sons: Charlie, Brandon and Maximus.  The whole family made the move to California when Freddie signed a six-year, $162 million […]

“It actually broke right before the World Series, and we had to overnight it to the jeweler,” she revealed. “Then they got it back right before game one. [We said,] ‘We need it back ASAP.’”

Rosemary passed away from melanoma at the age of 47 in June 2000 when her son was 10 years old. In addition to his necklace, Freddie also honors his mother during games by wearing long sleeves.

“[Rosemary was] so young when she passed away,” Chelsea recalled in Fight for Glory. “But he said one of his earliest memories that he remembers was he was at one of his super young games, and his mom was sitting out in the outfield, and he hit a home run, and it literally almost hit his mom, and she was just jumping up and down so happy.”

Chelsea — who shares Freddie Jr., 8, Brandon, 4, and Maximum, 4, with Freddie — believes Rosemary was doing just that when the Dodgers player hit several home runs during the World Series.

“That’s going to make me want to cry,” she shared, “but I feel like she was doing that in heaven when he hit his grand slam.”

One family member who was able to witness Freddie’s entire journey with the Dodgers was his dad, Fred. The proud father had a front-row seat as his son was named the 2024 World Series MVP.

After countless years of batting practices and drills, Freddie was more than grateful to have his dad experience the unforgettable series.

“I’m not sitting here without him,” he told Fox Sports moments after becoming a World Series champion. “This is his moment. It’s special and to be able to share it with him in this setting means everything. It really does.”

Fight for Glory: 2024 World Series is available to stream on Apple TV+ starting Friday, March 28.
