So you finally convinced yourself to buy a pair of ballet flats, but you have no idea how to wear them? I’ve been there.

Like everything else in life, I’ve found the only way out (of a style rut) is through. So whenever I can’t put two and two together, I just look at all the fun and cool ways fashionable people incorporate the celebrity-worn trend into their own wardrobe.

And there aren’t many people more on-the-pulse-of-fashion than my colleagues, so I put out a call to see how they put their own stamp on them. Now my brain is brimming with ideas — and thanks to all the shoes, outfits, and accessories down below, yours will soon be, too.

“There aren’t many ballet flats that I won’t wear. Case in point: I’ve tried and loved everything from Mary Janes (I have this exact pair from Franco Sarto!), ballet sneakers, and most recently, Tabis, i.e. the divisive shoes people say look like hooves. (Don’t knock them until you try them — they’re surprisingly comfy!)

While my footwear rotates, the way I wear them stays pretty consistent. My go-to formula lately has been linen pants, linen tops, and some color-coordinated accessories to put the sandwich method into action. I’ll likely wear the same combo in the fall, just with thicker fabrics.” Alyssa Grabinski, senior shopping writer

“As someone who loves to dress in timeless basics, I don’t typically jump on too many trends — but ballet flats are such an easy wear-everywhere shoe that it only made sense to finally buy a pair. I’m especially loving Mary Janes since the strap keeps them more secure. I just wore this pair to the office for the first time this week and was shocked by how cushioned my feet felt — absolutely zero foot pain or rubbing! Satin track pants and a basic cardigan were the perfect staples to throw on with them.” Alex Nelson, associate editorial director

“As much as I love ballet flats, I often end the day with the back of my feet in pain — so, these ballet mules caught my eye. The shoes’ baby pink hue provides a soft pop of color, and they’re easy to slip on with my beloved sweatpant jeans and a T-shirt for an easy outfit when I’m running errands.” Jennifer Maldonado, associate editorial director

“As someone with high arches, I’ve never found ballet flats particularly comfortable. But this Vivaia pair has cushioned arch support and a roomy square toe that still looks sleek while giving wider feet a little extra space. For a comfortable outfit that still looks put together, I’ll style them with a midi dress and a lightweight sweater draped over my shoulders.” Jeaneen Russell, shopping writer

“I’ll admit it, I can be a shameless trend follower at times. But hopping on the ballet flat bandwagon isn’t something I regret. A simple black pair adorned with a delicate bow is my go-to footwear for office days and casual hangs with my friends. Bonus: These have a cushioned insole for additional comfort.” — Izzy Baskette, shopping writer

“I can be such a baby when it comes to uncomfortable footwear (beauty is not pain in my book), which should make my stamp of approval on these Dolce Vita flats all the more impressive. I love that I can slip them on ahead of a full day of walking in New York City — going from uptown to downtown and everywhere in between — without fear of blisters or irritation. Plus, the mesh makes them super breathable!” Averi Baudler, shopping editor
