Hugh Grant credits his family for a lot of his success.
During a 2002 appearance on Inside the Actors Studio, the British star credited his late mother, Fynvola MacLean, for “any acting genes that I might have.”
The British star got his start in the 1980s and has grown to be a notable name. Amid his acting roles, Hugh also started a family of his own.
“It was the nicest thing that’s ever happened to me — he said, sounding clichéd — but it happens to be true. It’s just lovely to have all that love around,” the actor told People in a 2018 interview. “Suddenly you love someone more than yourself. It’s unheard of in my case and they love you and it’s all enchanting.”
Grant has continued to be candid about parenthood, even slamming his kids’ “posh private schools” in April 2025. The actor has campaigned for more outdoor playtime at schools.
“They’re the ones saying they’re not going to play outside today because it’s raining, or they can’t go on the climbing frame because it’s windy,” he said, according to a story from U.K.’s The Telegraph at the time. “It’s pathetic — it seems to me that there is space here for a hero school, a set of schools to break the mold.”

Fynvola MacLean and James Grant
The actor was born to Fynvola, a teacher, and James, who spent eight years as an officer in the Seaforth Highlanders and was also an artist.
Fynvola died at age 67 in 2001 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
James ‘Jamie’ Grant
Hugh has one older brother, Jamie, who works in finance in New York City.
Tinglan Hong
Hugh kept his relationship with Hong pretty private, but they did welcome two kids together.
Tabitha Grant
Their daughter was born in September 2011.
Felix Grant
Hugh and Hong also welcomed a son, named Felix, in February 2013.
Anna Eberstein
The Love, Actually star started dating Eberstein in 2012 amid his on and off relationship with Hong. They split in 2013 but reconciled shortly thereafter and eventually married in 2018. (Hugh, who has previously detested the thought of marriage, has gushed over his wife in multiple interviews over the years.)
“To my great surprise, while I was being pretty drunk for a few years in London about 13 years ago. The bar I used to hang out at, there was this hot Swede at the other end of the bar. And it was her,” Hugh said of Eberstein during a November 2024 appearance on the “SmartLess” podcast. “She’s an athlete, she was very nearly a pro tennis player but she’s just too angry. We got closer and closer and then we started breeding and now we’re married. She’s very much the man in the family.”
John Grant
Hugh and Eberstein welcomed their first child, a son named John, in September 2012.
Lulu Grant
The couple’s second daughter, Lulu, was born in December 2015.
Blue Grant
Hugh and Eberstein became parents for one final time when their final child, a daughter named Blue, was born in January 2018.
