When taking a domestic flight, I typically stick to the basics when packing my personal item bag—a book and headphones are usually all I need to make it to my destination. When it comes to international travel, though, I don’t hold back.
To ensure I arrive at my destination feeling refreshed, I need to bring a few more travel essentials than usual. At the top of that list are compression socks, which help prevent my legs and feet from swelling, encourage blood flow, and eliminate pain. I started wearing compression socks a few years ago for long-haul flights and never looked back. As a longtime fan of Bombas socks, I was excited to recently try out the brand’s version that a flight attendant said offers “just the right amount of compression” and keeps their “legs from feeling tired.”
Bombas Everyday Compression Socks
I slipped the Bombas compression socks on before boarding my 11-hour flight from Los Angeles to Munich, knowing it was an opportune moment to see how they compared. I’ve tried pairs in the past that offer too little support, while others apply entirely too much pressure. These, however, are a great balanced option.
They are so comfortable that by the end of nearly two days of travel, I completely forgot I was wearing them, yet they have enough compression to keep my feet and legs from swelling. I was even able to put my sneakers back on after the flight with no struggle. One reviewer agreed by saying the socks are “not too tight that they hurt,” but also “provide enough support.”
The medium level of compression is achieved with strategic zone cushioning, honeycomb arch support, and a cotton and elastane blend, according to the brand. They have a seamless toe for added comfort and stay-up technology that keeps the socks from slipping down. I liked that I never had to adjust or pull up the socks throughout my flight, and when I took them off, my legs felt just as fresh as they did before traveling.
The compression socks have more than 14,000 five-star reviews, not only from frequent fliers and flight attendants but nurses as well. One nurse said their “knees or ankles don’t hurt” even after “12-hour shifts,” adding that the “support is unreal.” Another reviewer said the socks “feel so cushioned” and “reduced the pain they experienced” at the end of their shifts.
