Blue Bell Creameries is recalling its Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream after it was packaged in another flavor’s container.
The Texas-founded company announced that the Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream was mistakenly labeled as Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) announcement published on Friday, Aug. 22. The mislabeled ice cream, produced in Brenham, Texas, is a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough carton and Moo-llennium Crunch lid.
Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream is a vanilla base with dark chocolate and caramel chunks, pecans, almonds and walnut pieces. The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough carton does not list almond, walnut or pecan as ingredients, so customers with a nut allergy or sensitivity run the risk of a “serious or life-threatening allergic reaction” if they consume the product.
A Blue Bell employee discovered two mistakenly packaged half-gallon cartons while restocking a retailer, per the announcement. Affected cartons, which have the code 061027524, were distributed to retailers in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
There are no reports of illnesses associated with this recall as of Aug. 22.
