My style has changed considerablyover the years, but my handbag collection, not so much.
Sure, I’ve added to my assortment here and there, but my Longchamp bags — yes, I have two — are the ones I’ll never, ever retire. My 2014 Le Pliage tote, which Kate Middleton has, too, may even be my most used bag ever. Nonetheless, $165 is a lot to spend on a bag when the prices of necessities like eggs and gas are skyrocketing.
So taking that into consideration, I found a few alternatives that are as cute as the real deal yet won’t burn a hole in your wallet.
Longchamp-Inspired Tote Bags
Longchamp Large Le Pliage Tote
To begin, I need to explain what makes the original Le Pilage tote so popular in the first place. The body of the bag is made with a durable nylon — even after a decade of use, mine has never ripped or been scratched up. It’s also shapeless compared to other bags, so you can really pack it full or fold it up completely flat. The zipper is way more convenient than a bag with only one loose latch, and the long handles always stay put on my shoulders.
Nnee Nylon Tote Bag
As its name implies, this bag is also made of nylon, has a zipper, and all things considered, looks relatively close to mine. The main difference is that it has an additional cotton lining, which one past shopper confessed they prefer over bags without. It doesn’t have the button flap, but I’ve found I rarely use mine anyways. Plus, it’s under $30.
Kate Spade Kitt Nylon Medium Tote, $79 at checkout
This designer bag has long black handles (as opposed to Longchamp’s commonly used brown color) which gives it some character. It’s also plenty roomy and has an “easy to wipe off outside material,” shared one shopper. It may or may not be foldable, but for a designer bag on sale, that’s something I’m willing to overlook.
Doris & Jacky Foldable Tote Bag
And over at Amazon and Lands’ End, a celebrity-carried brand, there are even more carryalls, which are indeed foldable, and come with an exterior pocket that I wish my bag had. And the Montana West bag is going for as little as $17 — what a steal.
