Misha Agrawal’s family has confirmed that the influencer died by suicide two days before her 25th birthday.
On Wednesday, April 30, six days after she died, Agrawal’s sister shared an update to her Instagram page regarding the late cosmetics brand founder’s mental state shortly before her death. The Reel began with a screenshot of her phone’s lock screen, which displayed her Instagram following count at 1 million. (Agrawal’s page actually shows she has 358,000 followers.)
“Her Phone wallpaper says everything. Her only aim of life,” the grieving sister wrote. She added, “Instagram is not a real world and followers are not real love, please try to understand this.”
The text in the post elaborated, “My little baby sister had built her world around Instagram and her followers, with a single goal of reaching 1 million followers and gaining loving fans. When her followers started decreasing, she became distraught and felt worthless.”
Her sibling recalled how, starting in April, Agrawal became “deeply depressed” and often expressed concern about the potential to lose followers and how that could impact her career.
“I tried to console her, explaining that this isn’t her entire world, it’s just a side job, and if it doesn’t work out, it’s not the end,” the post continued.
Her sister said she tried to remind the content creator that she had a law degree and was studying to become a judge. She said she told Agrawal to look at Instagram as “mere entertainment” and avoid letting social media “consume her.”
“I urged her to focus on her happiness and let go of anxiety and depression,” her sister wrote in a Reel shared to Agrawal’s page. “Unfortunately, my little sister didn’t listen and became so consumed by Instagram and followers that she left our world forever. Tragically, she became so overwhelmed that she took her own life, leaving our family devastated.”
The initial news of Agrawal’s death was announced on Instagram on April 26, which would have been her 25th birthday.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the heartbreaking news of Misha Agrawal’s passing,” the statement read. “Thank you all for the love and support you showed her and her work. We are still trying to come to terms with this immense loss.”
Agrawal had over 350,000 followers on her personal Instagram page and also ran a cosmetics brand called Mish Cosmetics, where she sold hair care oil. Her company also shared the news of her death with customers.
“We are heartbroken to share that our founder, Misha Agrawal, has passed away. She built MishCosmetics.in and Mish Hair Oil with love, passion, and a dream to make a difference,” the brand’s post began.
Elsewhere in the statement, the company page promised that orders would still be “processed and delivered soon.” It continued, “Thank you for standing with us, for your endless love, and for believing in Misha’s dream. Let’s continue to keep her spirit alive — together.”
