Influencer Reveals How She Spent $13K Attending New York Fashion Week

NEED TO KNOW

  • Influencer Vi Luong posted a TikTok recounting everything she paid to attend New York Fashion Week in 2022
  • Her biggest expenses included seven nights at a five-star hotel and a publicist she hired to help her see — and be seen at — shows, events and afterparties
  • Luong detailed the prices of hair, makeup, styling, private transportation and more luxury accommodations

Runway couture isn’t the only thing with a steep price tag during New York Fashion Week.

Content creator Vi Luong took to TikTok to break down her 2022 experience at NYFW by the numbers. Staying true to her self-described title as “your transparent digital big sis,” Luong recounted everything she paid to attend events and runway shows during the country’s most stylish season, from airfare to the costs of professional styling, hair and makeup.

Luong paid for two round-trip, economy plane tickets from Los Angeles to New York, which came out to $1,014 total. Seven days at the five-star ModernHaus Soho hotel resulted in a $4,519 bill, and the influencer noted that that included a press discount.

“I stayed here because it’s walking distance from Spring Street and most of the shows,” added Luong, who has over over 1 million followers between TikTok and Instagram.

She went on to detail some of the most fashion-forward expenses of the week. For a $1,000 flat fee, Luong was outfitted with “three looks to match with three certain shows,” and she admitted this felt like “an extreme discount” since her stylist is a friend.

“Hair and makeup for two to three days: $2,008.12,” the TikToker continued of her beauty treatments. “$1,500 was the actual service, and the rest was fees to the glam agency and paying for the makeup artist’s and hair stylist’s Ubers.”

She paid for her own “private care service” for $1,025: “I had a driver all day for two days so I could leave my stuff in the car and change in between all the shows that were like all across Manhattan and Brooklyn,” the lifestyle guru shared.

Luong added that she hired a publicist for $3,000, explaining, “Publicists are the people who secure you invites to all the shows, after parties, private events and make sure to get you photographed.”

The only expense she couldn’t nail down exactly was how much she paid for food, but she estimated around $500 total, bringing the “grand total” for attending New York Fashion Week to be $13,067.01.

She qualified her own expenditures by noting how some attendees may not end up dropping as much money on Fashion Week, especially if they “already live in one of the cities where Fashion Week takes place like New York, Paris, Milan.”
