Jacob Batalon is poking fun at his fellow engaged Spider-Man costars Tom Holland and Zendaya amid wedding planning.
While exclusively chatting with PEOPLE at a special New York screening of his new film, The Wrecking Crew, on Thursday, Jan. 15, the 29-year-old actor joked that Holland and Zendaya, also both 29, “copied” him by getting engaged. Although Batalon popped the question two months after Holland’s engagement was revealed, he claims his proposal plans were solidified first.
“They copied me,” Batalon teased. “They took my s–t. That was my s–t first.”
Zendaya subtly revealed her engagement to Holland last January when she stepped out at the 2025 Golden Globes sporting a diamond ring on her left-hand ring finger. Two months later, on March 5, 2025, Batalon announced his engagement to his fiancée, Veronica Leahov, on Instagram by sharing photos from their romantic New York City proposal with the caption, “The beginning of the rest of our lives together❤️🔥♾️🔐👸🏼👩🏼❤️👨🏽🤞🏽🌎.”
Batalon first set the record straight about the back-to-back engagement timing during an interview with Metro Entertainment in March 2025, during which he said he and Holland did not know of each other’s plans.
“No, we did not know about each other’s plans like that,” Batalon told the outlet. “But I will say I thought about it first.”
During his interview with PEOPLE, the Reginald the Vampire star revealed that he’s nearly finished with wedding planning thanks to Leahov taking the reins.
“It’s almost done,” he said. “I have not planned anything at all. So my fiancée, she’s really good at it. I genuinely just was like, ‘Tell me when and where and I’ll make it.’ ”
Back in March, Batalon told Entertainment Tonight that Leahov was eyeing Italy’s Lake Como for their wedding venue. Meanwhile, he was focused on the food and attire.
“I mean, some adobo for sure,” he said. “And then maybe some like — I kind of want to wear Aloha shirts instead of a tuxedo.”
Meanwhile, Holland and Zendaya have remained tight-lipped about their wedding plans. The bride-to-be’s stylist, Law Roach, even said that fans might not get to see any wedding photos.
“She and Tom are super private about their relationship. They’re trying to be as private as possible. There won’t be a Vogue spread or there won’t be pictures of the wedding and the people who she will invite will be really respectful of their privacy, so it will be a really beautiful dress that no one gets to see,” Roach said on the May 8, 2025, episode of Complex’s “Please Explain” series.

Batalon, Holland and Zendaya will reunite onscreen later this year in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is in theaters on Friday, July 31.
