James Middleton is on a family trip abroad, but relaxation doesn’t seem to be high on the agenda.
Kate Middleton’s younger brother shared a new photo on the Instagram page for his dog food brand, James & Ella, on July 24. The snap showed two of his dogs, golden retrievers Mabel and Isla, sitting on a road that’s part of the Tour de France route.
“Allez, allez!” he captioned the latest post. “Hiking stage 18 of the Tour de France on our family Tour of France 🐾 We are about 1km from the summit of the Col de la Loze in Courchevel, where the riders are going through today. Mabel and Isla didn’t even break a sweat.”
James, 38, seems to be keeping up the Middleton family’s passion for staying active during the trip. Princess Kate, 43, has previously shared tidbits about her childhood visits to the U.K.’s Lake District, recalling how they’d go “boulder hopping” in the streams.
The Princess of Wales also has some ties to cycling, including riding bikes with Prince William during a 2023 royal outing in Scotland and beating her husband in a spin bike contest, despite wearing a skirt and heeled boots!

Adventure and dogs are a usual part of James’ family vacations. In January, he shared photos of a winter getaway with his wife, Alizee, and their 1-year-old son, Inigo — as well as Mabel and Isla! Inigo was already standing on skis, and the couple were also pictured hiking in the snow with Inigo in tow.
The trip to France is a return home for James’ wife. Although Alizee grew up Given between six different countries — France, Germany, Indonesia, Chile, Belgium and England — James revealed in his book, Meet Ella, that she has a “wonderfully French” attitude.
Recalling when Alizee first met Princess Kate and Prince William, he wrote, “I’m about to take a cup up to Alizee when she appears at the kitchen door. She has just got out of bed, her hair still tousled, and she is wearing one of my shirts. In situations like this, Alizee is wonderfully French. She does not panic or rush upstairs to get dressed. Instead, she just greets everyone warmly as if it’s not remotely unusual to be meeting her boyfriend’s sister and brother-in-law for the first time wearing only an oversized man’s shirt.”
