Janet Jackson Gives a ‘Special Shout Out’ to Her Sisters for International Women’s Day

Janet Jackson is sharing a throwback family photo to celebrate the women in her life.

“Celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women today and everyday, but wanted to give a very special shout out to these women here,” Jackson, 58, wrote via Instagram in honor of International Women’s Day on Saturday, March 8, alongside a photo with her sisters, LaToya Jackson and Maureen “Rebbie” Jackson, as well as their mother, Katherine Jackson.

“Thank you for everything,” Janet’s caption continued. “I love you. Happy International Women’s Day! ♥️.”

Janet is the youngest child of Katherine, 94, and Joe Jackson, who died in June 2018 at 89 years old. Along with daughters Rebbie, 74, and LaToya, 68, the couple shared sons Tito, Sigmund, 73, Jermaine, 69, Marlon, 67, Randy, 62, and the late Michael Jackson. Michael died in June 2009 at age 50, while Tito passed away in October last year at the age of 70.

“May you rest in eternal peace. I miss you so much,” Janet wrote via Instagram on October 15 following his death and alongside a photo of her and Tito as children.

Janet, who welcomed son Eissa in 2017, has previously opened up about what it was like to be raised by her parents, Joe and Katherine, and how their decisions as parents impacted her own parenting style. (Janet shares Eissa, 7, with ex-husband Wissam Al Mana.)

“There are some things you wish your parents had done differently and you say, ‘No, I’m gonna tell [my son] this.’ Because if they had done this with me, it would have been much better for me as a child,” the five-time Grammy winner said in an interview with The Guardian in September 2024. “I hated it as a kid, but I’m thankful for it now. I have to give credit to my parents for keeping me grounded.”

Janet, who made her TV debut on The Carol Burnett Show in 1975, was adamant that Eissa have a “completely different” childhood than she did, saying, “I worked and he doesn’t. And that’s it.”

She continued, “I want him to experience being a child because you don’t get to do this over. You’re an adult for the rest of your life, so I want him to enjoy each and every minute of being a child.”

Janet even admitted in August 2019 that she hadn’t used a nanny since her son was born. “It is hard being a working mother,” the singer told Daily Telegraph’s Stellar magazine at the time. “I don’t have a nanny, I do it all myself. Of course, when I’m working someone watches him, but it’s my baby and me.”
