Jason Kelce is keeping it real.
On a new episode of his New Heights with Jason & Travis Kelce podcast, released Wednesday, July 23, the former Philadelphia Eagles center opened up about the time he left wife Kylie Kelce in the ocean after seeing a shark.
During a conversation about the 1990 classic Pretty Woman, Jason, 37, and his brother Travis Kelce discussed the ending of the movie when Richard Gere’s character Edward Lewis “rescues” Vivian Ward (Julia Roberts), like she had always dreamed of as a child.
“She plays out like she’s always had the dream of the knight in shining armor climbing the tower,” Jason said. “Then all of a sudden, at the end of it, he’s climbing the stairs of the Section 8 housing to save her from the circumstances that she’s been dealt, because he loves her. He braves up.
The sports broadcaster then recounted a time he chose to opt out of bravery himself: “Dude, I left Kylie in the ocean because of the sharks. I don’t know if I’m as good as Edward is, apparently. … I’ll tell you what, though: If I actually thought she was in danger, I wouldn’t make that [choice].”

“I was just terrified; I didn’t think I was in danger. That’s the difference,” Jason said. “I just started getting worried about the sharks. I didn’t think she was actually in danger. Otherwise, if Kylie fell into shark-infested water, I would jump in.”
The retired NFL star added, “I f—ing guarantee you. She was away from the shark. The shark was all the way over here.”
“It was in a completely different vicinity of this water. I’m just letting you know,” Jason went on.
“Shark was already close enough to you to where you got out of it,” said Travis, 35, with a laugh, to which his brother replied, “She was way behind me. I promise you.”
“Only Kylie has to believe you. Just remember that: Only she has to believe you,” Travis teased.
Back in January, Kylie, 33, appeared on the podcast to tell her side of the shark story. After Jason insisted that it was “hard to see” his wife, Kylie deadpanned, “No it wasn’t.”
She then explained that she turned around — and suddenly, her husband was paddling fast.
“AlI I said to him was, ‘Oh are you done?’ And he said, ‘Mm-hmm.’ Didn’t say anything,” Kylie recalled, to which Jason said, “Well, she was so far away from me, it was hard to hear what she said.”

“She was so far away from the shark,” he continued.
Kylie then said, “This is as he was paddling past me,” adding, “He had to paddle past me and he didn’t say anything.”
