Jenna Bush Hager and Husband Henry Did Couples Therapy Before Cohosting ‘Today’

Jenna Bush Hager and her husband, Henry Hager, did some interesting prep for his Today With Jenna & Friends cohosting gig.

“[He’s] not in television or anything of that matter, like at all. So, we did do therapy the Sunday before he hosted the show,” Bush Hager, 43, revealed on the Tuesday, April 1, episode of Jenna & Friends. “Just about his nerves. I just wanted to make sure that working together didn’t ruin the flow at home.”

When asked by Tuesday’s guest host, Olivia Munn, whether the couple’s home life was affected by the two-episode hosting stint, Bush Hager said, “No, it didn’t ruin the flow.”

Hager, 46, finished off Jenna & Friends’ “Family Week” of guest hosts by sitting alongside his wife during the show’s Thursday, March 27, and Friday, March 28, episodes. According to Bush Hager, both her husband and fans were happily surprised by his on-screen presence.

While viewers love Jenna Bush Hager for her candid remarks on Today, her family sometimes isn’t keen about what stories she shares on air. “My husband, [Henry Hager], is always like, ‘What? Why did you say you think it’s great when other girls have crushes on me? People are coming out of the woodworks,’” Bush […]

“He did well. And I was on book tour with my sister [Barbara Bush], and these people [were] like, ‘Now, Henry was so cute!” Bush Hager told Munn, 44, who agreed that she and Hager were “really cute” on the show together.

Bush Hager met her husband while he worked on her father George W. Bush’s presidential reelection campaign in 2004. During his Jenna & Friends cohosting debut on Thursday, Hager recalled picking up Bush Hager from the White House for one of their first dates, only for it to quickly go awry when he pulled into a gas station to fill up his truck.

“My truck started rolling backwards. The Secret Service was right behind my truck,” he revealed. “I slammed on the emergency break and just did a little bumper tap.”

Bush Hager recalled her husband’s ears being “bright red,” and told fans that their “tax dollars weren’t used to fix [their cars].”

The two went on to wed in 2008 and have since become the parents of three kids — daughters Mila, 11, and Poppy, 9, and son Hal, 5. Bush Hager surprised her partner with a sweet “good luck” video message from their kids during Thursday’s episode. “I bet you’re going to do the best,” Hal adorably shared in the clip.

The pair continued to open up about their family life on the show the following day, with Bush Hager revealing that their son has become “jealous of our romance.” Hager went on to explain, “We were all in the kitchen and he was eating and everybody was quite happy. And we went over and I gave you a kiss, just a nice little kiss, a little peck, and Hal just started bawling crying.”

Hager described Hal’s reaction as “total devastation” and told his son that the reason he was born was because “your mom and I like each other.” Hager noted that he proceeded to lean in for another kiss, which Bush Hager joked he did “just to antagonize the poor guy.”

Bush Hager thanked her husband for joining her on the show in a sweet Instagram tribute on Friday. “Feeling super grateful for a husband who showed up for me (even though this isn’t his cup of tea!), laughed with me and SUPPORTS me whole heartedly! I love him — even after that lie detector test!” she wrote alongside snaps from their episodes. “And love my @jennaandfriends family!”

Munn is set to cohost Jenna & Friends through Friday, April 4. Bush Hager has continued to cohost the fourth hour of Today with a variety of celebrity guest hosts since Hoda Kotb exited the NBC morning show back in January.
