Jennifer Garner will never pass up the opportunity to have a 13 Going on 30 reunion!
The actress, who serves as both the star and an executive producer of Apple TV’s The Last Thing He Told Me, recently opened up to PEOPLE about the show’s second season — and the exciting addition of Judy Greer to the cast.
While the pair famously portrayed frenemies in the 2004 romcom 13 Going on 30, Garner, 53, reveals she has a habit of bringing those who worked on the film back together.
“Susie DeSanto, our costume designer [for The Last Thing He Told Me], I've worked with her since 13 Going on 30. A lot of the people that I work with, I've worked with since day one of Alias, so that includes 13 Going on 30,” she shares, referring to the series that launched her to fame after its 2001 debut. “It was fun to all be together.”
Greer, 50, tells PEOPLE that having those who knew her so well on set contributed to how she was able to embrace her character, Quinn, as well. “Susie put Quinn in such beautiful clothes,” she says. “I understood who this woman was. And then on top of it, kind of trying to figure out, well, what do Quinn and Judy have in common, and what do Quinn and Judy not have in common?”
“My makeup artist, Cindy Williams, also did my makeup on 13 Going on 30,” Greer adds, joking: “I was like, ‘Cindy, is it different? Is everything different?’ And she's like, ‘No, you look the same.’ But she gets paid to say that.”
In season 2 of the thriller, Garner portrays Hannah, who develops a deep, motherly bond with step-daughter Bailey (Angourie Rice), casting a stark difference from their tense relationship in season 1. But when Bailey’s biological mother Quinn returns to the picture, she and Hannah begin to clash.
“We bring not just this work experience from 20 some years ago, but we also bring 20 plus years of friendship,” Garner says. “And not every day, not all the time, but we find each other again and again and again. We have found each other again and again over these years. So, she's carried me through things. I've carried her and I think all of that came into play.”
“We take our jobs, I think, more seriously now than we did when we were younger,” she continues. “Judy's such a formidable actress. I really wanted to show up and give her something to work opposite.”

The two have appeared in several projects together in the two decades since 13 Going on 30, as Greer teases that they have yet to find roles that mimic their real-life dynamic.
“It's the best to get paid to hang out with your friend, that's for sure,” she says. “It's funny that we keep playing characters that are at odds with each other, too. I wonder what it would be like to work with her when we were like the best of friends and really into each other. We always joke about that."
Greer quips: "Then we would never have to get separated on set — because there were times where we had to stay away from each other, especially with some of those dramatic scenes that we had together. I would be like, ‘Stay away. You are a stone. You are a ghost. I need to be not around you until we're done shooting this moment.’”
