After Donald Trump won the presidential election, O'Connell criticized the way Harris ran her campaign — and his family wasn't having it

Jerry O'Connell received some flak from his family after he criticized Kamala Harris' loss during her 2024 presidential campaign.
The Stand by Me alum, 52, appeared on a Monday, Mar. 16 episode of the Club Random with Bill Maher podcast and shared how his comment about Harris' loss on election night caused some strife in his family.
Before sharing what happened, O'Connell jokingly asked, "If I say this, will I stay married?"

"The night of the election, this third one, third election. Everyone knows what I'm talking about here," began the dad of two. "I was watching late at night the returns, and I'll be honest with you, I didn't think Trump was going to win. I live in California. I didn't think he was going to win from what I was hearing."
"I said something along the lines of 'There was no planning. This is what they get. There should have been a primary,' " remembered O'Connell of the Democratic party after learning that Donald Trump had won the election. "I said something along these lines, you know, like I was just spitballing ideas."
After President Joe Biden dropped out of the race in July 2024, Harris stepped up to run for office.
"It was a shock," said the actor. He explained that his wife, Rebecca Romijn, and their 17-year-old twin daughters, Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip, then "became physical" with O'Connell.

"They were filled with rage," he said, adding that he felt like they didn't understand his tone or delivery.
"Yes, I live in California. I live with not one, not two, but three people who, if I made any kind of joke that they would…they'd become very angry with me, you know," added O'Connell.
Back in October, O'Connell shared a sweet photo on his Instagram of his twins Dolly and Charlie as they got ready to go to their homecoming dance. The proud dad could be seen wearing a denim jacket over a gray T-shirt and gray pants, kissing his daughter Charlie on the cheek.
Charlie wore a black mini dress and smiled next to her dad, while her twin sister Dolly opted for a yellow beaded mini dress.
"'You can leave now, Dad.' Happy HOCO Gals! #hoco2025," O'Connell wrote in his caption.
