Stealing from your significant other’s closet usually means your locked in for life, at least if you’re Jessica Biel.
The actress and her husband, Justin Timberlake, have been married for close to 13 years, but the sentimental things that kept their relationship going when they were dating are what she keeps close.
Sitting down with InStyle for her new cover story, the 7th Heaven alum, 43, revealed that she stole one of her man’s T-shirt almost 20 years ago and never gave it back, mostly because the smell of him on it gave her great comfort.
“We spend a lot of time apart and we definitely spent a lot of time apart when we were younger,” Biel explained.
She added, “I would always want to have something of his to travel with. You know, something that just makes you feel like home, makes you feel connected to that person. It smelled like him, now it smells like me, which is a bummer.”
Biel confessed that she’s worn the shirt so much (out and about, to bed) that the already vintage shirt, which belong to Timberlake in childhood, is “on its last leg.”
However, the torn-up tee is really a symbol of their strong relationship. “I think having a partnership that understands this industry and adjacent industries has been deeply important and profound for my life and for our partnership because he just understands when I’m working crazy long hours and I understand that for him too,” she said.
“I get it when he works all night long. That’s kinda normal and I know that,” she continued.
That means, despite the “strange schedules” and “time apart,” they both know what it takes to support each other through their jobs.
Biel and Timberlake, 44, were first romantically linked in 2007. After a brief split in 2011, the couple got engaged that year in Montana.
Earlier, Timberlake described Biel as “single-handedly most significant person in my life.” He also told Vanity Fair that “in my 30 years, she is the most special person, okay? I don’t want to say much more, because I have to protect things that are dear to me — for instance, her.”
The two quietly tied the knot in a ceremony in southern Italy on October 19, 2012 and have since welcomed two children: Silas Randall Timberlake, 10, and Phineas Timberlake, 4.
