Jimmy Kimmel Is a Grandfather After Daughter Katie Kimmel Gives Birth to 1st Baby

During the monologue of his show on Tuesday, May 20, late night host Jimmy Kimmel shared some exciting news with his fans.

After missing only his second taping since becoming the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Jimmy revealed that his daughter, Katie Kimmel, welcomed a daughter into the world on May 19, making Jimmy a grandfather.

Jimmy shares Katie, 33, and his oldest son Kevin Kimmel with his first wife, Gina Kimmel. The 57-year-old is also a father of his two youngest children, Jane and Billy Kimmel with his wife of 12 years, Molly McNearney.

“People know I have two little kids. They don’t know I have two older kids,” Jimmy continued, explaining his absence to his fans. “My oldest daughter, she’s 83,” he joked.

Katie publicly announced on social media that she and her husband, Will Logsdon, were expecting a baby girl in March, writing “Makin girl 🐖🪕🥇” in the caption of her post.

“The baby’s very healthy,” Jimmy continued, first joking that they named her “Melania the Stallion” before sharing that she’s named after Jimmy’s mom, Joann Iacono.

“Her name, they give her a very, very cute name,” Jimmy shared. “Her name is Patti, like the melt, but with an i not a y.”

Her middle name is Joann.

“We had an army of family at the hospital. It was bigger than Coachella,” Jimmy continued. “One of the one of the few people who wasn’t at the hospital with us was my Aunt Chippy. My Aunt Chippy lives in Vegas, and traditionally, she has strong opinions about the names we give our children. My brother named his daughter Trixie, and so we called her. She said, ‘What kind of a name is Trixie?’ I said, ‘What kind of a name is Chippy?’”

The host then shared a video of himself in the waiting room of the hospital when he called Chippy to share the good news. At first, Jimmy joked around with his aunt, telling her that they named her great-great niece “Joannmama Kevin Logsdon.”

Chippy went on to threaten Jimmy that if he didn’t stop messing around she was going to come back and “haunt” him.

Jimmy then reminisced on all of the absurd things he learned from his own grandfathers growing up, saying “so I have to figure out something weird to teach my grandkids.”

“It is kind of scary though, to bring a child into this world and to say like, ‘Okay, you’re in this now at least until the year 2100. Good luck,’” Jimmy admitted.

“I mean, these kids have to worry about the climate going on fire, MAGA, AI. You know what we had to worry about? The most dangerous scenarios the future held when I was a kid, honestly, quicksand, the Bermuda Triangle and killer bees, that was the trio of terror. For me, still haven’t seen a hint of any of those things.”

According to Late Nighter, Jimmy is the first Late Night grandfather since Johnny Carson hosted The Tonight Show from 1962 to 1992.
