Jocelyn Hudon Says Novak Pops Up in ‘Chicago Med’ Season Finale, Teases What’s Next on ‘Chicago Fire’ (Exclusive)

Jocelyn Hudon warns Chicago Fire fans that a “suspenseful” season 13 finale is on its way — but that’s not the only episode Lyla Novak will be featured on.

“There’s a cliffhanger,” Hudon, 30, exclusively told Us Weekly when asked about the upcoming Chicago Fire finale, which airs in May. She teased that “suspenseful” is the “only word to describe” what’s to come.

The actress, who joined Chicago Fire as paramedic Lyla Novak during season 12, revealed that her character will also be crossing over to another show for an unexpected story line.

“She goes on Chicago Med. She’s in the Chicago Med finale,” Hudon told Us, playing coy about why Novak makes her way to the Emergency Department (ED). “She just happens to pop up in Chicago Med.”

If there’s one thing Dick Wolf isn’t afraid of, it’s killing off a beloved character. A fact that fans of the One Chicago universe know all too well. The franchise kicked off in 2012 with Chicago Fire. Chicago P.D. was added in 2014 and Chicago Med debuted in 2015. The cast of each show has […]

Fans will have to wait and watch three new episodes before the One Chicago finale airs on Wednesday, May 21, which Hudon says will be “pretty chill” for the Ambo 61 team made up of Novak and Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith).

“It’s more so [focused on], like, interpersonal relationships till the end of the season,” she shared with Us, starting with the Wednesday, April 23, episode.

During the “Permanent Damage” episode, Hudon said Novak will be focused on finding a roommate — one of which could be firefighter Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri).

“I love that episode,” Hudon told Us. “It’s more so of a comedic episode for Novak, which I really like.”

She called Novak and Ritter a “great duo” who “both play off each other really well.” Hudon played coy about whether Ritter ends up becoming her housemate, saying, “I don’t know if he’s gonna use kid gloves with her or if he’s gonna come at her with comedy and she gives it back.”

Hudon added as the final four episodes unfold, Novak, Ritter and Violet will be together but have their own “pull and push.” She hinted that Novak’s future is bright at Firehouse 51 despite the ominous cliffhanger.

“She’s settled and she’s just committed to 51 and she’s like, ‘Toss at me, whatever you have. I’m ready. I’m with my family,’” Hudon concluded.

While Novak is safe — and most likely returning for season 14 — Chicago Fire is losing two firefighters ahead of next season.

Lori Allen/NBC The One Chicago universe has seen many characters come and go, but the recent exits from Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med have some fans worried. Fears about the ever-changing One Chicago landscape don’t stretch to president of program planning strategy for NBCUniversal Entertainment, Jeff Bader. “Cast comes in, cast goes out,” […]

Kyri, who plays Ritter, and Jake Lockett, who plays Sam Carver, are planning on leaving the series due to possible budget cuts, Deadline reported on Wednesday, April 16. The outlet noted that several of the regulars’ contracts are up, which could mean even more exits.

Kyri joined the series as Engine 51 firefighter Ritter in 2018. Lockett, meanwhile, has been playing Truck 81 firefighter Carver since 2022. His character most recently went on hiatus after entering rehab for alcohol but returned for the April 16 episode.

Chicago Fire airs on NBC Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
