John Cena Had a Hair Transplant After WWE Fans ‘Ripped’ Him Over Bald Spot

John Cena is coming clean about getting a hair transplant.

The wrestler and actor, 47, confirmed he decided to see a doctor after WWE fans “ripped [him] to shreds” over his thinning hair.

“There’s another headline for ya: hair transplant,” Cena said on the Monday, April 21, episode of ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show, less than 24 hours after defeating Cody Rhodes to win his record 17th world championship at WrestleMania 41.

“There’s no shame in that, man,” Cena continued. “I got a problem, I tried to fix it. I’m working on it. I saw so many bald spot signs.”

John Cena and wife Shay Shariatzadeh’s low-profile relationship made their October 2020 wedding all the more surprising. The pair were initially linked in March 2019 when they were spotted holding hands after a dinner date in Canada. The relationship marked the first time Cena had been spotted on a date since his engagement to Nikki […]

Cena said that he got the procedure, in which follicles are removed from part of the head and reinserted where the hair is thinning, in November 2024. At the 2025 Royal Rumble event in January, the star said he had “half a skinhead up here,” as the new follicles were still growing, and was taunted by fans.

“By the way, thank you for being so aware of my needs and emotions, because you guys ripped me to shreds for a genetic problem that I can’t control,” Cena joked with the studio audience in attendance. “I’m in the Rumble [match], trying to win, and they’re like, ‘That’s a bald spot!’ That’s not fair! I can’t control that! It happens to 7 out of 10 dudes!”

On Sunday, April 20, Cena defeated Rhodes, 39, in the main event of WrestleMania 41, held at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium, to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. Cena’s victory makes him a 17-time world champion, breaking a tie with Ric Flair for the most world titles.

Sunday’s big show also marked Cena’s final WrestleMania match after announcing last July that he intends to retire from the ring by the end of 2025.

WWE’s best and brightest are celebrating the impact and legacy of John Cena after the pro wrestling legend announced plans to retire. “I can’t take this! I can’t take this, man,” Montez Ford exclusively told Us Weekly at the L.A. premiere of Netflix’s Receiver on Tuesday, July 9. “Do you know how many cherished memories […]

“The word ‘retirement,’ to me, simply means acknowledging and accepting that you’re closing a chapter and opening another one,” Cena told Yahoo in March. “This is a thing that a lot of folks go through, and it’s a normal progression in life. It’s closing a chapter, continuing to be curious and finding that second mountain to climb.”

Cena is expected to make over two dozen more WWE appearances before hanging up his wrestling boots in December.
