Jonathan Scott is showing off the outdoor areas at his and fiancée Zooey Deschanel‘s L.A. abode!
The HGTV star, 48, gave a tour of his backyard in a recent video shared to his and twin brother Drew Scott’s official YouTube channel. In the clip, Jonathan brings viewers around the different “zones” he created at their home and shares a few design tips for homeowners looking to jazz up their outdoor space.
“I’m so meticulous, and I designed my yard to make it a place I want to spend all the time in the world in,” he explains.
In a separate Instagram video, the Celebrity IOU host reveals his “favorite place” in the space and details the unique story behind it.

“My favorite place in my backyard is actually in my front yard. It’s my gazebo and rose garden,” he explains. “This gazebo was actually originally on the other side of the property — almost 100 years old.”
Jonathan adds that the structure was “falling apart,” so he rebuilt it and raised the height. He also added outdoor lighting and a heater for added amenities.
“And then I transplanted all the original roses, which were 60 years old, kept them alive during all of construction, and replanted them,” he continues. “So when you look at the roses around here, most of them are about 60 years old. This to me is a very special place.”
Along with the gazebo, Jonathan explains how the design of his outdoor fireplace turned into a bit of trial and error for him.

“This fireplace took me so many iterations that everyone else was probably getting so annoyed with me, but I wanted it to be perfect,” he says in the YouTube video. “And then I picked the furniture because I knew the vibe I wanted to have in here.”
He also explains how it’s important to have different “zones” in your backyard because trying to “do all the things” in one space doesn’t work. Throughout the video, he shares a look at his outdoor kitchen area, the playset for the kids, multiple seating areas and more zones.
“This is my favorite place,” he notes of his yard. “I spend so much time outside here that I hope you can find that same happiness in your home.”

Jonathan and Deschanel, who got engaged in August 2023, spent years renovating their L.A. abode and turning it into their dream home.
After purchasing the property in 2020, the pair immediately got to work on transforming it into an oasis for their blended family. They made the perfect team as the actress took on the role of interior designer while the expert builder focused on construction for the 1938 build.

Nearly two years later, they unveiled the completed remodel in the June 2022 issue of the brothers’ magazine, Drew + Jonathan Reveal, and have since shown off their home’s quirky and colorful design details on social media.
The stunning home features a solarium and a multi-functional office space that Deschanel uses as her glam room, music studio, closet and crafting corner. It’s also adorned with vibrant wallpaper, colorful tiles and an elegant grand staircase.
