High Potential fans are in for a long summer.
In the season 2 finale, "Family Tree," Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) found Captain Wagner (Steve Howey) bleeding out after a meet-up that was supposed give them more answers about Roman. Meanwhile, a shadowy figure who may or may not have been Roman briefly appeared at Ava's (Amirah J) art show and Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) had to arrest his ex Lucia (Susan Kelechi Watson) just as they were planning a life together again.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Olson, 50, breaks down all of those shocking cliffhangers and teases what could happen if Morgan finally reunites with Roman in season 3.
"So many cliffhangers, I know," she laughs before confirming that Wagner "was stabbed a lot." The It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star adds, "There are so many places that we can go with this next season. It's very exciting and it definitely starts with, does Wagner make it or not?"
Whether or not Wagner survives his injuries, Olson promises that his adorable dog, Ingrid, will be just fine. "Oh my God! Don't even worry about the dog," she says. "Ingrid's coming home. The entire season can be about that dog as far as I'm concerned. I loved her."

Also at the forefront of season 3 will be the possibility that Roman could be in Los Angeles. However, the question of why he has stayed away remains unanswered despite the ominous hints dropped by Willa (Jennifer Jason Leigh).
Olson believes no matter what reason Roman has for staying away from Morgan and their daughter, the police consultant is going to feel some anger.
"We've been talking about it for a couple years now, trying to figure out," Olson explains. "This is so complicated. My instinct would be that it's going to be very, very confusing, and probably there's going to be a lot of anger. She is a bit of a hothead anyway, so it's also just more fun. But no matter where he was, if he's still alive, and he has stayed away from her and his daughter for this long, I think she's going to be livid. I'm not sure there's any excuse that's going to be one that makes it okay."
As for whether or not Roman was truly involved in anything shady, Olson says it's best not to take anything Willa says at face value, noting that "with regard to the Roman stuff, this information, Soto [Judy Reyes] points out, we got it from Willa, and we don't necessarily trust Willa."

In addition to the Roman tease and Wagner's life hanging in the balance, the season 2 finale also made time for an intimate moment between Morgan and Karadec that's sure to have those who are rooting for the partners to become something more talking. Following his discovery that Lucia was involved in criminal activity in connection with the hotel case at the center of the episode, the partners shared a moment at Morgan's house, where Karadec cupped her face after she comforted him.
For Olson, it was important to show the audience Karadec's softer side this season. "I want these characters to be well-rounded. Yes, he's a by-the-book cop, but he's also a human being, so I wanted to make sure that you were able to see his heart," she says.
"And you do with his relationship to Morgan. That was so important. Whether they're going to end up romantically involved or not, you see that these people really do have love for each other … Then listen, heartbreak is so universal. You got to throw that into your show."

With High Potential already renewed for season 3, the show is poised to delve even deeper into Morgan's relationship with Karadec, as well as the more dangerous aspects of her work with the police next season. With Wagner's life hanging in the balance, the mom of three will be forced to face the realities of working with law enforcement in a way she hasn't fully before.
Olson teases, "Now more than ever, now that somebody that she deeply cares about got really hurt or is potentially dead, everything changed. I mean, I think she just wants to put the lid back on, but it's too late. That's just always so much more fun to watch when things are completely off the rails, and it's certainly more fun to play."
