Kate Hudson may have ended her relationship with fiancé Matt Bellamy in 2014, but the former couple are still on great terms.
“We’re so close,” Hudson, 45, shared on the “How to Fail” podcast on Thursday, February 27. “I love him, his wife [Elle Evans], his family, the kids. Our kids are so close. [My daughter] Rani and his little girl, Lovella, they’re so close.”
Hudson, who was engaged to Bellamy, 46, from 2011 to 2014, shares son Bingham, 13, with the Muse frontman. The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actress also shares son Ryder, 21, with ex Chris Robinson and Rani, 6, with now-fiancé Danny Fujikawa while Bellamy shares daughter Lovella, 4, and son George, 9 months, with wife Evans, 35.
Hudson went on to explain how she and Bellamy “figured out how to have a different relationship” that wasn’t about them being together.
“We weren’t right for each other and we tried really, really, really hard and instead of blaming or creating the argument or creating the problem, it was just like, ‘I don’t want to keep going down this path,’” she noted. “It’s very easy for me because I’m an Aries and I like new things and I have the means to take care of my kids by myself but I want to find the right person, the right fit and sometimes you’re just not.”
Hudson has previously discussed how she didn’t want her relationship with Bellamy to end — but it was for the best.
“You have to be honest with yourself,” she shared on the “Reign with Josh Smith” podcast in December 2022. “I think that’s when things started changing for me — when I started taking far more accountability for my own s—. That was when it started to shift because that’s where I think you find your power. When you realize how imperfect we all are, when you’re OK with that, it’s very liberating.”
Two years after her split from Bellamy, Hudson began dating Fujikawa, 38. After welcoming Rani in 2018, Hudson and Fujikawa announced their engagement in 2021.

In May 2024, Hudson couldn’t help but gush over her relationship with Fujikawa, noting that he is a “good man.”
“His values are very sturdy, and he’s such a lovely person,” she revealed on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast at the time. “I would have never, I think, allowed that in if I didn’t take those three years of just being so happy in my life alone.”
