Katherine Heigl Shares Why She Doesn’t Let Her Kids Use Phones 3 Days a Week

Katherine Heigl believes in the good of limiting her kids’ screen time.

After all, the Grey’s Anatomy alum discovered that her and husband Josh Kelley‘s daughters Naleigh, 15, and Adalaide, 13, have become “far more creative” people after reducing their phone usage to only certain days of the week.

“Naleigh has started baking and cooking a lot because I now I have a rule about the phone: They don’t get it three days a week and they only get it after school,” Heigl exclusively told E! News’ Francesca Amiker. “Adelaide, she talks about wanting to be an actress.”

The 46-year-old—who also shares son Joshua, 8, with the country singer—said she implemented the policy as a way to “mitigate” how much time her kids spend online, allowing them to find ways to entertain themselves without the internet. 

“Modern moms have to really deal with that in a way that our mothers did not,” Katherine explained. “I have always felt like I can’t take it away completely, because then they aren’t really in the world. All their friends are on it and all their the schoolwork is on it.”
