Kathy Hilton’s memories of the Met Gala are royally fabulous.
As the countdown continues for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s biggest event of the year, Hilton, 66, can’t help but recall the one time she met Princess Diana.
“That would be when Liz Tilberis was chairing the event,” Hilton exclusively shared with Us Weekly at The Daily Front Row’s 9th Annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards. “Princess Diana came, and so I got to meet her, and that was very exciting.”
In true Met Gala fashion, Hilton wasn’t ready to spill all the details about their encounter. At the same time, she remembers the fierce fashion worn during the special moment.

Although the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala fundraiser has been happening since 1948, it wasn’t until Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour took over in the 1990s that the event became the Super Bowl of fashion. “We both had the little Lady Dior bag,” she recalled. “I was very excited that I had a bag like hers because there weren’t many in America.”
Another memory that stands out to Hilton is when the late Brooke Astor came up to her at an event and shared a special compliment.
“She said, ‘I love your costume,’” Hilton recalled. “And I had on Oscar de la Renta little knickers – actually shoes like [these AQUAZZURA shoes] with the bow in the back and a white ruffled Oscar de la Renta on top. And she said, ‘I love your costume.’”
The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event benefiting The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Traditionally held on the first Monday of May, the high-profile affair consistently garners substantial eight-figure sums in donations.
While this year’s guest list is top secret, the co-chairs joining Anna Wintour for the 2025 Met Gala include musician and menswear designer Pharrell Williams, rapper ASAP Rocky, Formula 1 race car driver Lewis Hamilton and Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo.
When asked if any Bravo stars deserve an invite to the special event, Hilton said she has no power over who scores a ticket.
“Anna Wintour makes that list, so I can’t weigh in on that,” Hilton joked. “They all deserve to go, once. I mean, it’s great. I have been back in the day, and it is very, very exciting.”
While at the Fashion Los Angeles Awards, The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Bronwyn Newport thought Summer House’s Paige DeSorbo wears “fabulous things” and may deserve a spot.
Newport, 39, also admitted she’s been “dying to go” after coming close to securing an invite.
“I had a close call a couple of years ago,” she told Us. “A designer I work with quite a bit had somebody pulling out the last minute and wanted to know if I wanted to go, and then he found someone more exciting than me, but I thought I was gonna get to go.”
