Katy Perry Praises Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ After Past Feud: ‘It’s An Adorable, Sweet Community’

Katy Perry had the best day “catching up” with Taylor Swift backstage at the Eras Tour last year.

“I actually went and did a show in Australia very quickly and I had one day off before the show,” Perry, 40, recalled in a Friday, January 17, TikTok video with U.K. radio show Capital. “I had one day off and I was like, ‘Hey girl, I’m gonna come to the show’ and she was so excited.”

She continued, “I was so excited. People gave me bracelets, and I think Rita Ora gave me a bracelet. I loved it. It’s just like a big community — an adorable, sweet community.”

Perry attended one of Swift’s February 2024 shows in Sydney, later meeting up with the fellow pop star backstage.

“I got to see her and we got to catch up,” Perry gushed to Capital, referring to the Instagram selfie that the pair took to capture the moment. “I love her so much.”

Swift, 35, and Perry became friends in 2009 after they both made their initial mark on the music scene. They later sparked feud speculation after their respective flings with John Mayer and rumors surfaced that Perry poached Swift’s backup dancers for her own tour.

“She did something so horrible. I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business,” Swift claimed to Rolling Stone in 2014. “She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational — you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.”

At the time, Swift said that she vowed to never mention Perry publicly again. They ultimately buried the hatchet by 2018, one year before the “I Kissed a Girl” singer made a surprise appearance in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” music video.

“I just thought, you know, she was about to embark on something new and big and needed the support,” Perry said on KIIS 1065’s The Kyle & Jackie O Show in July 2018, referring to her music video cameo and Swift’s Reputation Tour. ”And truly, as I was finishing mine, I realized how much we have in common. And maybe there’s only five other people in the world that can have the same type of conversations and understand where we’re coming from, and that we should celebrate our commonality and our friendship and to be able to be there for each other.”

After Perry and partner Orlando Bloom welcomed daughter Daisy two years later in 2020, Swift sent a homemade baby blanket to congratulate the new parents.
