Kelly Stafford Defends Jordon Hudson’s Privacy After Controversial Bill Belichick Interview

Kelly Stafford stood up for fellow football WAG Jordon Hudson in the midst of a dramatic week for Hudson and boyfriend Bill Belichick

Hudson, 24, stirred controversy over the weekend when she shot down a question about how she and Belichick, 73, met during an interview that aired Sunday, April 27, on CBS Sunday Morning.

“I think it’s fair game both ways,” Stafford, 35, said on the Thursday, May 1, episode of her “The Morning After” podcast. “If she doesn’t want to talk about it, then they don’t have to talk about it.”

Stafford has been married to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford since 2015.

While Kelly defended Hudson’s right to privacy, she saw eye-to-eye with her podcast cohost, Hank Winchester, when he suggested it was inappropriate of Hudson to interject herself into the interview itself.

“I agree with that,” she said.

Kelly also noted that Hudson should probably have been more prepared for the line of questioning, especially given the fact that she and Belichick have not shied away from sharing glimpses into their love story online.

“Bill Belichick, you never really saw him much in the social media platform stuff and now he’s everywhere with her,” Kelly said. “I do think there is a little bit of responsibility for her knowing that questions are going to be asked because they are so public with their relationship.”

Kelly used a wider lens to explain how all of the conversation and intrigue surrounding Hudson and Belichick’s romance is indicative of the current sports landscape, at large.

“I just think the whole sports world in general right now is dramatic as hell,” she argued. “I understand that these guys are not just athletes. We know this. But at the same time, they are athletes. Why is everything so damn dramatic?”

Belichick defended Hudson’s conduct during a statement released on Wednesday, April 30, by the University of North Carolina, where Belichick was announced as the new head football coach in December 2024.

“I agreed to speak with CBS Sunday Morning to promote my new book, The Art of Winning – Lessons from My Life in Football,” Belichick said. “Prior to this interview, I clearly communicated with my publicist at Simon & Schuster that any promotional interviews I participated in would agree to focus solely on the contents of the book.”

Jordon Hudson shared an email from her boyfriend, Bill Belichick, written ahead of his contentious interview on CBS over the weekend.  The concerned message was written by Belichick, 73, on April 10, weeks before the football coach’s sit-down interview with journalist Tony Dokoupil aired Sunday, April 27, on CBS Sunday Mornings. During the interview, Hudson […]

The statement continued, “Unfortunately, that expectation was not honored during the interview. I was surprised when unrelated topics were introduced, and I repeatedly expressed to the reporter, Tony Dokoupil, and the producers that I preferred to keep the conversation centered on the book.”

Belichick said Hudson “stepped in” in an attempt to “refocus the discussion.”

CBS released a statement of their own on Wednesday, saying the interview with Belichick came without any restrictions.

“When we agreed to speak with Mr. Belichick, it was for a wide-ranging interview,” a spokesperson for CBS News said. “There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation. This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.”
