Kelsea Ballerini Reveals Her Concert Hair Isn’t Real: ‘Felt Like Hannah Montana’

Kelsea Ballerini knows how to keep her hair healthy and looks good doing it!

The “Blindsided” singer, 31, made her fans do a double-take Thursday, April 17, when she revealed through a TikTok video that the hair on her head wasn’t technically hers.

“Protected my hair, felt like Hannah Montana, and got the after-show nickname Rufus,” she captioned her post, adding a bit of nostalgia with the Miley Cyrus Disney show reference.

The fictional teen pop star’s song, “This Is the Life,” played in the background as Ballerini added, “Last night of tour shed 🫠.”

Her video began with the country singer wearing a tie-dye T-shirt and sweatpants in full glam as a hairstylist used a Q-tip and adhesive remover on her hairline.

Ballerini’s sped-up video showed the woman applying the product and the wig becoming loose enough to remove as the seconds went on.

As this was going on, the “Better Luck Next Time” singer chatted with someone off-camera, eventually receiving a hug during the seamless hair removal process.

Finally, the hairstylist removed the wig, leaving behind only a lightly colored wig cap. Once the cap was taken off, it revealed that Ballerini had two pigtails braided underneath, tucked into one another to make her real hair more compact.

She also used a makeup wipe to remove her eyeshadow, blush and foundation.

There were more hugs as the singer allowed her stylist to wipe the leftover residue from the adhesive clean from her forehead.

The transformation left fans shook in the comment section.

“The hairstylist who installed this KILLED it. It was unclockable,” one user wrote. Another added, “IT WAS A WIG??? GURRLLL IT LOOKED SO REAL.”

One person, who claimed to have seen the star “up close and personal,” couldn’t believe what they were seeing: “Whoever did this install of the wig needs a raise because omg!! I saw you up close & personal in Seattle & I would have NEVER guessed it wasn’t your real hair😂.”

In January 2024, Ballerini spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about her hair for her partnership with Pantene.

The Patterns artist said if her hair could talk, it would tell her, “I’m glad you cut a lot of inches off about a year ago. For a lot of reasons.”

“Your hair grows how many inches a year? A couple? Think about that. The hair here has seen a lot, and I was like: you gotta go,” Ballerini added.

After debuting her lob (long bob) the summer before, the singer called her big chop part of her “healing era.”

“I really put my hair through it. I have for a decade,” Ballerini told PEOPLE. “I’m doing all the things. And it needed a little attention. She was like, ‘Me, my turn.’ I was like, ‘Fair enough.’”
