Some moments of Lady Gaga’s career are blurred in her memory.
The Grammy-winning superstar, 38, teamed up with Spotify for a Little Monster Press Conference in N.Y.C. on Feb. 27, and one fan asked Gaga to reveal what she whispered to Ariana Grande during their performance of “Rain on Me” at the 2020 MTV VMAs.
“I don’t know [what I said]! It was probably something very silly, because we’re very silly when we’re together,” she said, widening her eyes in surprise at the specific question.
The moment happened in the midst of Gaga’s medley performance of Chromatica album tracks “911,” “Rain on Me” and “Stupid Love” at the awards show. She was joined by Grande for the second song, and midway through she looked at the “Dangerous Woman” singer and appeared to say something.
Ever since, fans have wanted to know what Gaga told her. Soon, they may find out!
“I will watch it back, and I will write you an apology, and I will try to remember,” she said at the Spotify event. “I’m going to ask [Ariana], she might remember.”
Elsewhere during the event, Gaga revealed her favorite tour she’s done. “I would have to say The Fame Ball… because it was such a different grind, and that’s where I met so many Little Monsters,” she said of the 2009 string of concerts in support of her debut album, The Fame.
“The ArtRave was also really special,” she added, nodding to the tour in support of 2013’s Artpop. “That album was so criticized, but Little Monsters showed up.”
Gaga also informed fans “there will probably be” a tour in support of her upcoming Mayhem album “coming soon” — to ravenous applause from the crowd.
Beyond touring, another fan asked if the New York City native would ever pursue Broadway, and she responded, “I would really like to write a musical.”
“I feel like that would bring me so much joy,” continued Gaga, adding that she “would want to put years of work into that.”
Mayhem — featuring the singles “Die with a Smile,” “Disease” and “Abracadabra” — will be released March 7.
