Lauren Sánchz Bezos is celebrating her younger son’s major milestone.
The philanthropist and award-winning journalist, 55, posted a heartfelt message to her younger son, Evan Whitesell, on Instagram on Monday, Aug. 11, as he heads to college.
Sánchez Bezos included an image of her 18-year-old son building a piece of furniture in his University of Miami dorm room. “Dropped off Evan at college today. 18 years of early mornings, late night snacks and family dinners…. and then there he was building his own dorm cabinet,” she captioned the post.
She continued: “A small thing but in that moment I saw the start of his next chapter. Proud. Heartbroken. Grateful”
Sánchez Bezos shares Evan and daughter Ella, 17, with ex-husband Patrick Whitesell. She also shares Nikko Gonzalez, 24, with her ex-boyfriend and NFL Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez.
Sánchez Bezos announced in December 2024 that Evan had been accepted by the University of Miami. Her Instagram Stories post included an image of a University of Miami logo and the word “business,” seemingly hinting that Evan will study at Miami’s Herbert Business School.
“My heart is bursting,” Sánchez Bezos wrote at the time. “Beyond proud of you.”

Before the mother of three dropped off Evan at college, he and Nikko walked her down the aisle at her wedding to now-husband Jeff Bezos in June 2025.
Ahead of the Friday, June 27 wedding, Vogue‘s Chloe Malle reported, “Her two sons will walk her down the aisle, she tells me, apologizing that she can’t help tearing up as she envisions it.”
The Amazon founder, 61, and the Emmy-winning journalist tied the knot in a black-tie ceremony held on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, Italy.
Bezos has four kids of his own, whom he shares with ex-wife MacKenzie Scott. His children have been kept largely away from the spotlight.
Of his four children, only his oldest son, Preston, has had his name made public. The former couple also shares two younger sons. They also welcomed a daughter via adoption from China.
